Hebrew Union College is seeking a dynamic and relationship-oriented professional to serve in a dual part-time role as Admissions Recruiter (Los Angeles) and Jewish Ideas Fellowship Director. This position averages 20 hours per week and combines student recruitment with leadership development for emerging Jewish leaders.
As the Admissions Recruiter, the successful candidate will serve as the primary recruitment representative for the Los Angeles campus and Southern California region, meeting with prospective students both in person and virtually to guide them through the admissions process and explore opportunities for rabbinical education.
As the Jewish Ideas Fellowship Director, the successful candidate will oversee HUC's Jewish Ideas Fellowship by designing and managing a leadership development experience for emerging Jewish leaders while cultivating meaningful relationships with fellows, mentors, alumni, faculty, and partner organizations.
This position is based in Los Angeles, with an expectation of working on campus approximately 1–2 days per week. Fellowship responsibilities are conducted primarily via Zoom and telephone.
Essential Responsibilities
- Admissions Recruitment
Prospective Student Engagement
- Meet regularly with prospective students to provide guidance throughout the discernment and admissions process.
- Conduct outreach to prospective applicants through alumni, current students, and community partners.
- Coach prospective students as they explore graduate education, rabbinical school, and vocational discernment.
- Respond to questions regarding HUC academic programs, admissions requirements, and institutional policies.
- Maintain detailed records of applicant interactions using Active Campaign and other recruitment systems.
- Connect prospective students with HUC classes, programming, and educational opportunities to strengthen their preparation for graduate study.
- Refer applicants to the Hebrew Learning Support Coordinator, when appropriate, to develop individualized Hebrew learning plans.
- Connect prospective students with trained alumni mentors who can provide guidance throughout the discernment process.
Recruitment Strategy & Outreach
- Partner with the Associate Director of Recruitment & Partnership Development, Rabbinical School Director, Student Ambassadors, and the Dean of the Los Angeles campus to develop and execute recruitment strategies throughout Los Angeles and Southern California.
- Build and maintain relationships with synagogues, Jewish organizations, campus partners, and community leaders.
- Coordinate recruitment events, open houses, admitted student programs, and prospective student visits.
- Represent HUC at recruitment events, conferences, and community gatherings.
Recruitment Travel
- Travel outside Southern California approximately 2–3 times annually, as needed, to recruit at college campuses, conferences, and Jewish community events.
- Submit activity and reimbursement reports in accordance with HUC travel policies.
Jewish Ideas Fellowship
- Design, launch, and manage the Jewish Ideas Fellowship to cultivate emerging Jewish leaders.
- Recruit, engage, and support fellowship participants throughout the program.
- Develop relationships with alumni, educators, mentors, and partner organizations to strengthen fellowship programming.
- Coordinate fellowship communications, marketing, website content, and social media in partnership with the Office of Recruitment and Admissions.
