The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) announces an opening for a Dean of Instructional Services, in STEM at East Los Angeles College (ELAC). The college is seeking a student-centered, innovative, and revenue-generating leader focused on growing, developing, and aligning our academic programs with the college’s goals in response to student and community needs, as well as supporting our college’s commitment to educating the more than 55,000 racially and socioeconomically diverse students we serve each year.

ELAC is the largest of the nine colleges in the LACCD that serves East and Southeast Los Angeles with campuses in Monterey Park, South Gate, and Rosemead.

Established in 1945, ELAC is designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) dedicated to providing the highest quality of transfer, non-credit programming, and community programming with the purpose of supporting students in achieving associate degrees, general education, skills certificates, workforce preparation, and/or personal development. The college seeks to fulfill the potential of each student through innovative teaching methods, the latest in educational technology, and committed support services.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Dean of Instructional Services works cooperatively with department chairs and directors with respect to program review and planning, grant development, curriculum development, scheduling, Full Time Equivalent (FTE) management, hourly rate assignments, hiring and contract compliance. The Dean articulates, implements, and monitors compliance with the Education Code, Title 5, Board Rules, District Administrative Regulations, Personnel Guides, accreditation, and collective bargaining agreements.

They also represent Instructional Services on a variety of committees and subcommittees under the College's participatory governance structure and serve as a resource to the Vice President of Instructional Services on issues pertaining to the dean's area of responsibility. The College invites applications from a diverse pool of candidates with the required training and work experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Completion of one year of full-time formal training, internship or leadership
  • experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, develop, organize, supervise, and evaluate the instructional programs and departments within the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics or other assigned areas in accordance with legal requirements, District policies, Accreditation Standards, and sound instructional principles and practices; areas of responsibility are subject to change based on institutional needs.
  • Implement the philosophy, mission, vision, and goals of the College, and lead efforts within assigned areas to reduce equity gaps and foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning and working environment.
  • Engage in and lead strategic planning that advances the ELAC Strategic Educational Plan Career. Collaborate with faculty leaders, department chairs, deans, staff, and administrators to ensure integrated, college-wide planning and communication.
