Mirman School is seeking a full-time, Upper School (5th-8th) Associate Teacher for Science to join our community of learners, who are compelled by the school’s mission and has comprehensive responsibility for all activities involving students and faculty. This position will support Mirman School’s upper school science program.

Job Summary

Work with the two Lead Science Teachers to create a flexible and dynamic program favorable to learning and personal growth for highly gifted children; establish effective rapport with students, parents, and colleagues; nurture passions and talents of students; develop each child’s skills, attitudes, and knowledge to establish a strong foundation for middle grade education in accordance with each student’s ability; collaborate and partner with colleagues and the Administration to build, assess, and integrate curriculum across disciplines;

foster student success and well-being beyond the classroom.

Essential Job Functions
  • Collaborate and co-teach with the Lead Teachers to plan curriculum and deliver science instruction, including supporting and leading lessons as appropriate and providing coverage when needed
  • Manage lab materials with a focus on safety and organization to support classroom curriculum and instruction
  • Teaching or co-teaching electives
  • Apply feedback to teaching practice
  • Perform other school related duties such as lunch / recess supervision, overnight outdoor education trips, and subbing
  • Attend grade level, department, faculty, and professional growth meetings
  • Work under the mentorship of the Lead Teachers to develop instructional practices, including the use of methods, materials, and technology
  • Co-advise 12-14 students and support Mirman’s SEL program
  • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in a science education-related field
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Flexibility and creativity in working in a dynamic environment exhibiting the qualities of an adult learner
  • Experience working with children (informal or volunteer work is welcomed)
  • Culturally competent, responsive and engaged community learner
  • Exhibit enthusiasm and commitment to the vision, mission and guiding principles of the school
