POSITION SUMMARY

The Family Resource Director is responsible for leading and managing family programs that support families which includes developing strategic plans, overseeing daily operation of the programs, engaging with families and overseeing staff, volunteers and interns. This position requires experience in working with families, the community, and service providers. The family programs this role oversees, such as the Early Learning Readiness (ELR) program, focuses on the needs of children and their families, providing support, connecting families with other programs and resources.

This role is also responsible for ensuring compliance and enforcing policies and procedures related to ELR and other family services. The Family Resource Director supports the development of healthy communities by providing resources in support of the social-emotional well-being of YMCA families, implementing trauma-informed training and programs, and understanding our families and their needs. The ultimate objective of this role is to assist families to be healthier, better connected, and provided with trauma-informed tools to make more contributions to their community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

PROGRAM OPERATIONS/MEMBER ENGAGEMENT
  • Provide leadership, guidance, supervision and oversight to the YMCA’s Early Learning Readiness program for assigned region and centers.
  • Develop, implement and strategically commit to engaging families that align to our Urban Initiative:
    Cradle to Career Success
  • Develop and implement trauma informed curriculum for families that align to our youth programs. Enhance and ensure implementation of the YMCA’s existing ELR curriculum.
  • Achieve workshop enrollment goals identified in Family Engagement Urban Initiative:
    Cradle to career Success, including providing leadership to the overall program experience
  • Develop and direct university partnerships that will create trauma informed programs, internally and externally for the LA Y, through internship opportunities
  • Provide leadership for the LA Y Social Emotional Well-being Task Force and LA Y Ad Hoc Committee in creating trauma informed curriculum
  • Build family engagement capacity at key communities including East, South, and Southeast Los Angeles
  • Provide leadership to the development and delivery of community-based programs in accordance with established standards and guidelines
  • Develop and direct high-quality family engagement strategies and programs which support the association mission, goals and strategies
  • Work with the Mar Com department to develop accessible and culturally competent marketing materials for program recruitment
  • Provide workshops, events, and individual support regarding early learning issues that impact our community, including family literacy, digital literacy, employment opportunities or readiness, communication skills, conflict mediation, healthcare, financial institution education, and advocacy for children's education.
STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
  • Support professional development through trainings, technical support and providing resources.
  • Maintain ongoing communication between early learning readiness (ELR) programs and community members in urban or high-need areas that the Y serves.
  • Provide leadership to Program Directors regarding managing programs and facilities in order to meet operating plans.
  • Provide extensive training to YMCA staff and volunteers to more effectively engage, inform, and involve caregivers and parents.
  • Responsible for recruiting, onboarding, hiring, training and evaluating program facilitators and instructors for each location.
  • Manage university social work interns and service-learning students
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
  • Keep abreast of local resources available within the communities we currently serve.
  • Coordinate and support family engagement initiatives with the ELR caregiver/families.
  • Lead a community needs assessment to better determine the needs of our communities.
  • Assist the YMCA Mission Advancement and Youth Development departments in planning for meetings of the Association and assist in the preparation of reports of the meetings to funders.
