The Philosophy Department in the College of Arts and Letters at Cal State LA is seeking part‑time faculty lecturers for the 2026‑2027 academic year. Positions are filled as needed each semester based on instructional need.
Minimum Qualifications- MA or Ph.D. in Philosophy or related fields.
- Ability to relate well within an academic environment and demonstrate interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural setting.
- Commitment to student‑centered learning and teaching.
- Proficiency in written and oral use of the English language.
- Experience working with diverse populations and fostering an inclusive environment.
- Relevant work experience and training.
- Instruction of courses as assigned.
- Class preparation, grading, and office hours.
- Other duties as required by departmental needs.
Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary ranges (per 7/1/2024 schedule):
- Lecturer A–2 (Full‑time equivalent): $5,507 – $6,677
- Lecturer B–3 (Full‑time equivalent): $6,221 – $13,224
- Lecturer C–4 (Full‑time equivalent): $6,835 – $14,523
- Lecturer D–5 (Full‑time equivalent): $8,593 – $15,211
The anticipated monthly hiring range is generally near the minimum of the appropriate range, with most new lecturers hired at Lecturer A or B rank.
Required Documentation- Cover letter addressing minimum and preferred qualifications.
- Statement of commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a multicultural/multiethnic campus environment.
- Curriculum vitae.
- List of CSU courses previously taught, and/or courses or topic areas qualified for teaching.
- Official transcripts (required upon hire).
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
- US Equivalency certification for foreign terminal degrees (if applicable).

A background check, including criminal records, must be satisfactorily completed. Employment is conditional on satisfactory results.
