Our ideal candidate will possess strong technology skills, a working knowledge of Google Workspace and Chromebooks, and a passion for teaching students, and be able to maintain continuity of the Technology & Media Lab program while the lead instructor is away. This position serves students in Grades 3-8 who attend Technology & Media Lab once each week to build foundational technology skills, practice digital citizenship, and learn to use technology safely, responsibly, and effectively.
The long-term substitute will teach from the established Technology & Media Lab Curriculum Guide, follow the existing scope and sequence, and support students' active inquiry, discovery, and learning across the program's five learning areas:
Digital Citizenship & Device Care, Keyboarding, Google Workspace, Technology Foundations, and Communication & Collaboration.
- Teach weekly Technology & Media Lab classes to students in Grades 3-8, following the established curriculum guide, scope and sequence, and pacing;
- Deliver instruction guided by the ISTE Standards for Students;
- Teach digital citizenship, online safety, and device care throughout the year using Common Sense Education activities, discussions, scenarios, and mini-lessons;
- Provide consistent keyboarding instruction and practice to build student accuracy, speed, and confidence;
- Instruct students in the grade-appropriate use of Google Classroom, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets, and Google Forms;
- Build student Chromebook skills, password awareness, file organization, and digital workflow, moving students toward independence across the grade levels;
- Guide students in using technology to communicate, collaborate, organize information, and complete meaningful learning activities;
- Support Grade 8 students in authentic project work, including yearbook production using Canva;
- Use a variety of assessment practices, including participation, classwork, projects, quizzes, reflections, and teacher observation, to monitor, guide, and support student learning and to adjust teaching to meet student needs;
- Maintain Google Classroom, assignments, student records, and grades in a timely and organized manner;
- Foster a classroom community founded on trust, respect, consideration for self and others, inclusiveness, curiosity, growth mindsets, and joy;
- Promote in students self-awareness, self-regulation, self-advocacy, moral sensitivity, integrity, and mutual responsibility;
- Provide active and connected supervision in a safe, structured, and teacher-guided lab environment, ensuring students access only school-approved digital tools and teacher-approved and IT-approved websites and resources;
- Model and reinforce responsible device care, and coordinate with IT regarding device needs and technical issues;
- Partner with classroom teachers to reinforce cross-curricular connections in Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Judaic Studies;
- Work closely with supervisor and the faculty team to cultivate an invigorating, safe, and respectful atmosphere across all grades;
- Communicate on a regular basis with supervisor to discuss curriculum scope and sequence, the corresponding pacing guide, and student progress;
- Maintain clear documentation of instruction, pacing, and student progress to support a smooth transition when the lead instructor returns.

Education: Bachelor's (Required)
Experience:
- Teaching: 1 year (Preferred)
- Classroom technology or media instruction (Preferred)
- Experience with elementary and middle school students (Preferred)
Technical
Skills:
- Google Workspace, including Classroom, Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Forms (Required)
- Chromebook management and troubleshooting (Required)
