The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at UCLA seeks applications for the position of a Lecturer in Islamic Studies. The successful applicant will be expected to teach one in-person course in Islamic Thought during the academic year, likely in Spring Quarter 2027.
Candidates must have at least an M.A. in Islamic Studies or a related discipline, with specialization in Islamic thought, and prior college-level teaching experience. They should be able to demonstrate a command of major historical and contemporary questions and debates in Islam, as well as the major historical genres (such as hadith, tafsir, fiqh, kalam, falsafa, etc.) and contemporary disciplines in which those debates take place and are studied.
Advanced knowledge of Arabic is required and additional skills in related languages, such as Persian, Turkish, Malay, etc. is desirable. Candidates must submit a CV, Teaching Statement, and contact information for 3-5 references.
See Table 15 for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $73,817 - $80,664.
