Lecturer, Disability Studies - Perspectives Disability Studies

The UCLA Disability Studies Interdepartmental Degree Program is seeking a 50% lecturer for the Spring 2027 quarter to teach an in-person upper division core undergraduate course in the Disability Studies program. Given the interdisciplinary and evolving nature of the field, Disability Studies at UCLA is looking for instructors who represent multiple perspectives, and we encourage applicants from a wide variety of backgrounds to apply.

The Disability Studies 101W course asks students to create a critical framework for understanding concepts of disability from a sampling of disciplinary perspectives. This course is organized around the central tension in disability studies -- between disability as lived subjective experience that is both individual and communal, and disability as objective, medical, legal, and sometimes stigmatized category. Students are encouraged to make connections between units and to create their own perspectives on disability in field that defines itself by how it changes.

This course satisfies the Writing II requirement as well as the Diversity Requirement for the College of Letters and Science.
