Assistant Professor of Teaching in Youth Behavioral Health in the UCLA Department of Psychology

The UCLA Department of Psychology invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Teaching who will contribute to the development and teaching of undergraduate courses in the newly established Youth Behavioral Health undergraduate minor. Additional undergraduate courses may be taught in the area of clinical psychology. We seek applicants who demonstrate excellence in teaching, including experience employing innovative and evidence-based methods in the classroom, engaging in reflective teaching practices, and pursuing ongoing efforts to improve their teaching.

Additional responsibilities include:

(1) coordinating with other instructional staff who contribute to the Youth Behavioral Health Minor (e.g., Teaching Assistants, Lecturers); (2) working with other faculty and community partners to develop and maintain appropriate internship placements; (3) overseeing matching and placements for undergraduate interns; (4) managing program curricula to align with established competency models and credentials; and (5) contributing to academic standards and admission criteria for the Youth Behavioral Health Minor.

In addition, the successful candidate is expected to engage in scholarly/professional activities. These activities could include contributing to research on pedagogy or contributing to research in another area with the support of undergraduate students; developing, evaluating, and disseminating innovative teaching approaches; or maintaining clinical licensure and engaging in activities related to professional clinical practice.

The Assistant Professor of Teaching position is a full-time faculty position with potential security of employment akin to tenure. Those in the Professor of Teaching series are Academic Senate faculty members whose expertise and responsibilities center on undergraduate education and scholarly analysis/improvement of teaching methods. Faculty in the Professor of Teaching series are evaluated on their (1) teaching excellence, (2) professional and/or scholarly achievement and activity, and (3) university and public service.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field awarded prior to the position start date. Applicants who hold or are willing to apply for clinical licensure in California are strongly preferred. Applicants should demonstrate a record of expertise and teaching excellence in undergraduate courses relevant to clinical psychology. Preferred qualifications include professional experience developing or delivering BA-level youth behavioral health curricula in a university setting, a record of establishing and maintaining collaborative training relationships with youth-focused mental health organizations, experience with working successfully with field placements/practica, and coordinating training with required credentialing and licensing bodies.
