Overview
Senior R&D Systems Engineer – Networked Electronic Warfare — Silvus Technologies is dedicated to one mission: connecting those who keep us safe. We deliver advanced Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) radios powered by our custom Mobile-Networked MIMO waveform. Our radios and waveform support mission-critical applications in harsh environments, from underground tunnels to high-altitude balloons. Silvus Stream Caster radios are used by the U.S. Department of Defense, international and local agencies, and manufacturers of drones, robots, and unmanned systems.
Following its acquisition by Motorola Solutions, Silvus Technologies is expanding its Strategic Growth organization. This role is part of the Research & Development team and reports to the Senior Director of R&D Electronic Warfare. The position is based at Silvus Technologies’ headquarters in West Los Angeles, CA, on a hybrid schedule requiring a minimum of 3 days onsite per week (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays).
TheOpportunity
We seek a highly skilled and motivated Senior R&D Systems Engineer to lead the definition and development of next-generation Networked Electronic Warfare (EW) systems. This role bridges RF hardware, signal processing software, and distributed networking architectures within a multi-disciplinary team. The position requires a rigorous systems engineering approach to capture designs, manage requirements, and ensure mission success in contested RF environments.
Responsibilities- System Architecture & Design
:
Lead architectural definition of networked EW systems, decomposing high-level mission requirements into hardware, software, and firmware specifications. - Requirements Management
:
Use modern requirements management tools to capture, trace, and maintain system requirements throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring coverage from customer needs to validation testing. - Technical Documentation
:
Author and maintain engineering artifacts, including System Design Descriptions (SDDs), Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Con Ops, and Test Plans. - MBSE Implementation
:
Apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to model system behaviors, states, and data flows, ensuring coherency across distributed network nodes. - Integration & Test Leadership
:
Define and oversee integration strategies; lead hands-on integration events involving RF hardware, embedded software, and network emulators in lab and field environments. - Cross-Functional Collaboration
:
Serve as the technical bridge between RF, FPGA, Software, and Mechanical teams; facilitate trade studies to balance performance, SWaP, and cost. - Performance Analysis
:
Develop MATLAB/Python-based simulation models to predict system performance under realistic channel conditions and validate them against field data. - Travel:
Occasional travel for team meetings.
- Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
- Minimum 5+ years in systems engineering for complex hardware/software systems; strong understanding of V-model, requirements decomposition, and lifecycle management.
- Experience in one or more of the following domains:
Electronic Warfare (EA/ES/EP), SIGINT, Tactical Radios / Wireless Communications (MANET, MIMO, Mesh), or Radar Systems. - Hands-on experience with modern systems engineering/tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler (Magic Draw), IBM DOORS/DOORS Next Gen, Jama Connect, or Sparx Enterprise Architect.
- Security Clearance: Active U.S. Government SECRET clearance or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
- U.S. Citizenship required due to clients under U.S. government contracts.
- Background check and drug test required for employment.
Skills and Abilities
- Master of Science in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
- Understanding of distributed EW concepts such as TDOA/FDOA geolocation, coherent distributed jamming, or collaborative sensing across a MANET.
- MBSE mastery:
SysML and executable system modeling. - RF & Networking fluency: RF propagation, link budgets, modulation techniques.
- Networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, multicast) and tactical data links (e.g., Link 16, ATAK…
