Description
Burns & McDonnell is seeking a motivated and self-starting Staff Environmental Scientist to join our Environmental Services global practice. We are looking for an individual to support a wide variety of environmental compliance projects, working with a team of dedicated professionals to deliver exceptional service to our clients. This position offers an excellent opportunity to practice in a variety of technical areas and grow your career in the environmental consulting industry.
Lead and support technical activities related to environmental compliance, including report writing and field investigations.
Supervise, train, and mentor field staff on environmental field activities and best practices.
Perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) of field staff work, including conducting weekly site visits.
Manage and report on hazardous waste and materials compliance under various regulatory programs, including CUPA, SPCC, HMBP, CERS, and TRI reporting.
Conduct routine inspections of active construction sites to ensure compliance with environmental plans and stormwater permits.
Coordinate with clients and regulatory agencies to obtain and maintain all necessary environmental permits.
Provide training to construction crews on stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs).
Perform environmental field activities, including collecting soil and groundwater samples, logging soil borings, overseeing construction materials testing, installing and developing monitoring wells, and conducting hydrogeologic investigations.
Analyze environmental data, summarize results, and prepare high-quality technical reports.
Ensure and document compliance with regulations established by the local air districts, LACSD, CARB, RWQCB, DTSC, CERCLA, CUPA, DOT, EPA, and other applicable California and federal agencies.
Assist with project management duties, including the execution of project scope, budget, schedule, and client expectations.
Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, or a related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
Four years of professional experience in technical activities related to environmental assessment or compliance.
Demonstrated aptitude for performing environmental field activities, analyzing data, and summarizing results.
Strong technical report writing skills.
Excellent problem-solving abilities, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team framework.
Ability to travel and work in the field as required.
Preferred Qualifications
OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification with current annual updates.
Direct experience with industrial and construction stormwater compliance, CUPAs, USTs, ASTs, Hazardous Materials Business Plans (HMBPs), and air quality permitting.
Previous environmental consulting experience.

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
