Overview

Precise Systems is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support the Vertical Launch System (VLS) Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) Engineering Branch at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD). The position will involve serving as a member of the ATE Team and providing test equipment and simulator design and development for the MK41 and MK57 VLS Programs. Responsibilities include design, programming, building, testing, delivery, maintenance, documentation, and training of test equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Mentor and coach both government and contractor junior engineers and technicians.
  • Design new ATE systems and assorted other VLS test equipment.
  • Provide oversight to control software used in the new system designs, including software design or collaboration with a software engineer to ensure robust, error-free products.
  • Support acceptance, installation and checkout, troubleshooting and repair of prototype and production test systems.
  • Support test system indoctrination, maintenance, and technician and operator training.
  • Provide appropriate schematics, diagrams and write specifications to clarify design details of prototype/experimental electronics units.
  • Supervise fabrication and assembly of prototype and production electrical and electronic systems.
  • Collaborate with technicians to identify solutions to technical design problems during design, fabrication, and checkout.
  • Supervise creation of the technical data package (manuals, procedures, drawings, etc.) for new system design.
  • Ensure design documentation is complete and error-free.
  • Inspect existing designs for quality, common design practices, potential component EOL issues, optimization, improvement, and cost reductions; report findings and provide recommendations.
  • Redline technical data packages to reflect changes and errors in design or implementation.
  • Provide engineering support for All-Up Round (AUR) Built-In-Test (BIT) systems and other launcher and canister test equipment, including test set layout and interface support, installation and checkout.
Education
  • BSEE or equivalent engineering degree required.
  • MSEE or equivalent is a plus.
Experience
  • 5 years of experience in electronics hardware and software design.
Desired Skills
  • Solid electronics background with digital and analog hardware design at the system level.
  • In-depth knowledge of DC and AC measurement techniques in bench and ATE environments.
  • Strong understanding of ATE architecture.
  • Excellent electronics debugging skills.
  • PCB design experience with attention to signal integrity and low-noise power distribution.
  • Experience with National Instruments PXI/PXIe and LabVIEW is a plus.
  • Experience using UNIX, LINUX, and Windows.
  • Fluency in system programming languages (C++, C#, Visual Basic, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Navy IA requirements and procedures is a plus.
  • FPGA programming experience (Verilog and/or VHDL) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of microcontroller design and programming is a plus.
  • Knowledge of PERL and Python for hardware control is a plus.
Other Requirements
  • Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.
  • Up to 25% travel.
  • Valid driver’s license for possible CONUS travel.
  • Current U.S. passport for possible OCONUS travel.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work independently; strong self-motivation; ability to work in a team and mentor junior engineers.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required.
