Sr Systems Engineer

Our client in California specializing in major modification programs for transport-category aircraft is seeking a Sr Systems Principal Engineer. This role is ideal for a senior engineer with broad experience in aircraft modification and certification programs, particularly those involving Aircraft systems integration.
The position will begin as a short-term contract to assess mutual fit. Upon successful completion, a full-time offer may be extended
Ideal Candidate would have the following experience
- Have worked on hydraulics, pneumatics, environmental control, and systems integration with a general knowledge of electrical integration such as installations of electric harnesses, etc.
- Oversee system installation, routing, wiring, and integration with the structure.
- A strong understanding of certification compliance for aircraft systems
- Review and approve system schematics and block diagrams.
- Define system architecture and interfaces between subsystems
- Works closely with DERs or CVEs on system-level substantiation, testing, and certification documentation.
- Lead and coordinate engineering activities for aircraft modification programs, including design, analysis, certification ie.
STC, and parts procurement. - Provide technical oversight for both mechanical and electrical system integration, ensuring compliance with FAA/EASA certification requirements.
- Interface with internal engineering teams, DERs, suppliers, and certification authorities.
- Support project scheduling, resource planning, and risk assessment for ongoing and upcoming programs.
- Contribute to design reviews, drawing releases, and stress and system verification documentation.
- Oversee integration between structural modifications and aircraft systems (hydraulic, pneumatic, ECS, electrical routing, etc.).
- Passenger-to-freighter (P2F) conversion programs for major transport-category aircraft.
- Design, analysis, and certification support for large-scale modification programs, including fuselage cutouts, floor structures, cargo door installations, and systems rerouting.
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering (Master's preferred).
- 10+ years of relevant engineering experience in transport-category aircraft modification or certification programs.
- Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and complex modification projects.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, airframe structures, and system-to-structure integration.
- Familiarity with electrical systems and certification requirements - expert-level electrical experience is not required, but the candidate should be comfortable overseeing cross-disciplinary integration.
- Experience with FAA STC processes and working with ODA/DERs preferred.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
