Electronic Source Company (ESC), established in 1994, is a U.S. based electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider specializing in high-reliability circuit card assemblies and box builds for the defense, space, aerospace, and medical markets—where failure is not an option.

With quality serving as our baseline, our role is to go beyond that by delivering consistent execution, managing risk proactively, and supporting the broader objectives of our customers’ programs.

Summary

The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for ensuring that all materials, components, and services provided by suppliers meet stringent quality standards, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory guidelines. This role partners closely with suppliers and internal cross‑functional teams to drive continuous improvement, support new product introductions, and ensure robust, repeatable manufacturing processes for printed circuit board (PCB) and electronic assembly operations.

Primary

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain supplier quality requirements, including Supplier Quality Agreements, inspection criteria, and quality system instructions
  • Implement and monitor equipment performance, including reviewing and validating IQ reports for new equipment to determine the most suitable options for specific production
  • Evaluate and monitor supplier performance through KPIs, audits, and scorecards; drive corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Lead supplier qualification, onboarding, and periodic audits to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 13485, AS9100)
  • Review and validate supplier process capabilities, including participation in First Article Inspection (FAI), APQP and process validation activities
  • Partner closely with receiving and inspection teams to define inspection plans, sampling methods, and acceptance criteria for incoming materials, while supporting the disposition of nonconforming materials and ensuring proper documentation, containment, and escalation
  • Collaborate with suppliers to resolve nonconformances using structured problem‑solving methods (5Y’s, 8D, RCCA, CAPA)
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations to ensure incoming materials meet production requirements and support efficient manufacturing processes
  • Provide input on Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT) with suppliers to improve yield, reliability, and cost
  • Support new product introductions (NPI) by ensuring supplier readiness, process validation, and risk mitigation
  • Analyze supplier quality data and trends to identify improvement opportunities and implement corrective/preventive measures
  • Source and qualify suppliers for tooling, fixtures, and equipment used in PCB and electronics manufacturing
  • Ensure proper documentation, traceability, and record-keeping for all supplier quality activities
  • Maintain compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards related to supplier processes and materials
  • Conduct supplier training and provide guidance on quality expectations, IPC standards, and best practices
Requirements
  • Minimum of 4-5 years’ experience in quality engineering role, preferably supporting Electronics Manufacturing, SMT, CCA, and PCBA
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of PCB fabrication, electronics assembly processes, and supplier quality management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced computer skills including use of quality, data analysis, and productivity software
  • Comprehensive knowledge of IPC standards (including IPC‑A‑610 and IPC‑A‑600), AS9100D, MIL‑STD‑883, and related aerospace and defense quality requirements
  • Working knowledge of IPC‑A‑610, J‑STD‑001, and applicable space or high-reliability addendums
  • Experience with supplier audits, qualification processes, and corrective action systems
  • Process Control (SPC), Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence external suppliers
  • Proven ability to effectively train and mentor peers, direct reports, and cross-functional stakeholders with a results driven mindset
  • Exhibit dependable, high-quality work while operating with minimal supervision
  • Commitment to a high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to apply Lean principles and execute 5S methodologies to support operational excellence
  • Must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident
