My client is developing robotic systems designed to operate on the Moon, with the long-term goal of enabling a sustainable human presence beyond Earth. Their technology focuses on extracting lunar resources and converting them into usable fuel for future space missions.
Alongside this, they are building advanced solar systems for commercial space applications, giving them both near-term traction and a bold long-term vision.
The RoleThis role is focused on one of the hardest problems in robotics: localization in GPS-denied environments.
You’ll take ownership of building the systems that allow lunar rovers to accurately determine their position using sensor data in extreme conditions.
Key responsibilities include:- Developing localization systems using IMU, LIDAR, cameras, and sensor fusion
- Applying techniques such as SLAM, EKF, and INS
- Testing and validating systems on real rover prototypes in outdoor environments
- Running simulations using tools like Gazebo and real terrain datasets
- Iterating quickly based on real-world performance and failure modes
- Collaborating with autonomy teams across planning and perception
This is a highly hands-on role where you’ll be working across the full lifecycle — from design to real-world deployment.
Requirements- 5+ years programming in Python and/or C/C++
- Experience building software for real robotic systems (not just simulation)
- Strong background in localization (SLAM, EKF, INS, etc.)
- Experience in GPS-denied or similar environments
- Eligibility to work under US export regulations
- Experience with ground robots or autonomous vehicles
- LIDAR or vision-based localization (e.g., VSLAM, visual odometry)
- Familiarity with ROS / ROS2 and simulation tools
- Salary up to 200k + equity
