Job Description
Sikand Engineering Associates is a well-established civil engineering, planning, and land surveying firm based in Sherman Oaks, California. Founded in 1959, we have over 65 years of experience delivering land development solutions throughout Southern California for national homebuilders, regional developers, and public agencies. We are currently seeking an Assistant Project Coordinator to join our project management and processing team.
This is an entry-level position ideal for someone looking to build a career in civil engineering, land development, or project management. You will work alongside experienced project managers and processing specialists, gaining hands‑on exposure to the full lifecycle of land development projects in Southern California.
What You Will DoYou will drive to various public agencies throughout Southern California — including the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, the City of Santa Clarita, local water districts, and other jurisdictions — to deliver engineering plans, maps, and permit applications on behalf of our clients.
You will assist project managers with creating and maintaining project schedules, tracking milestones, and coordinating tasks across our civil engineering, land surveying, and planning departments to keep projects moving forward efficiently.
You will help organize and manage project submittals by ensuring that agency comments, plan corrections, and approval documents are properly tracked, filed, and distributed to the appropriate team members and clients.
You will prepare correspondence, meeting notes, and project status updates, and serve as a point of contact between our internal teams and external agency staff during the processing and approval phases of a project.
What We Are Looking ForA valid California Driver's License, a reliable personal vehicle, and a clean driving record are required. This role involves daily driving to agencies across Los Angeles County and surrounding areas, and mileage reimbursement is provided.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Urban Planning, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred but not required. We are happy to train the right candidate.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential. You will be managing multiple submittals and deadlines simultaneously, and accuracy matters in this line of work.
Clear and professional communication skills are important. You will interact regularly with public agency counter staff, plan check engineers, clients, and our internal engineering team.
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is expected. Familiarity with project scheduling tools, AutoCAD, or GIS is a plus but not required.
Compensation and BenefitsWe offer a competitive hourly wage commensurate with experience, along with IRS‑standard mileage reimbursement for all business‑related driving. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with company match, and paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave. There is a clear path for advancement into Project Coordinator, Assistant Project Manager, or technical roles within the firm as you develop your skills and knowledge.
