The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) System Delta 88 – MILSATCOM (SYD 88) at Los Angeles Air Force Base, California is searching for a Chief Engineer (NH-0801-04, GS 14/15 equivalent).
Description:
Space Systems Command (SSC) is seeking a senior-level MILSATCOM Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Chief Engineer to shape the future of national security space capabilities. The Chief Engineer serves as the technical authority, providing engineering direction on the development, integration, and feasibility of space mission architectures. The role includes advising senior leadership, overseeing engineering activities for FMS space acquisition programs, and representing the organization in high-level engagements across the DoD and interagency partners to ensure delivered solutions meet warfighter needs.
• Act as the overarching technical authority for MILSATCOM FMS programs, guiding development, integration, and feasibility assessments of space mission architectures.
• Advise senior leadership on engineering direction and risk, and oversee complex engineering activities for space acquisition programs.
• Represent the organization in high-level engagements with DoD, interagency, and international stakeholders to ensure solutions meet warfighter needs.
• Provide leadership and technical direction across multidisciplinary teams to translate requirements into realizable system designs and architectures.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance or the immediately capability to obtain and maintain one.
- 10 or more years of defense program engineering experience with a strong focus on systems-level space architectures.
- Experience with Foreign Military Sales (FMS) engineering management, advising on acquisition and releasability of critical space assets (highly desirable).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to build consensus and represent the organization among diverse DoD, interagency, and international stakeholders.
- Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.
- Ability to plan, organize, and direct organizational functions, mentor staff, and manage resources to meet program requirements.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance with SCI access.
- Designated for drug testing with random urinalysis as a condition of employment.
- Required to handle and safeguard sensitive/classified information in accordance with regulations.
- Occasional travel may be required (military or commercial aircraft).
- Filing an OGE-450 Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of assuming the position and by 31 October annually thereafter; annual ethics and procurement integrity training required.
- Designated as a CRITICAL APDP position; may be designated as an Acquisition position covered by APDP, requiring certification (e.g., Level 3 in T&E or SPRDE-SE).
- Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY) approximately 45 days per year.
- PCS is authorized; incentive pay not authorized.
