Harris is a leader in the design, manufacture, and deployment of advanced propulsion and energetics systems, including those for rocket motors. Our customers include the U.S. Department of Defense, NASA, and other notable agencies and companies domestically and internationally. We are seeking a Specialist Systems Engineer focused on specifying requirements for propulsion systems. Candidates should have a background in systems engineering and an understanding of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
The role requires meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage projects under general supervision.
- Specify Requirements:
Develop comprehensive system requirements for the specification, design, and verification of propulsion systems, including applicable industry standards. - Integration:
Coordinate with cross‑functional teams to ensure requirements are met during the design and verification phases. - Risk Management:
Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure successful project completion. - Communication:
Present findings and updates in written reports and oral presentations to stakeholders at various levels.
- Requirement Development (60%):
Develop systems, subsystem, and component requirements for rocket propulsion product development. Responsible for requirement derivation, allocation, documentation, change management, verification plans, compliance assessment, and certification using model‑based systems engineering tools. - Functional Analysis (15%):
Perform functional analysis and coordinate system trade studies, selecting optimized concept baselines through benefit/cost trades to support system architecture definition. - Risk Coordination (15%):
Coordinate project risk and opportunity assessment and management, report results, and oversee a small staff of engineers or technicians, estimating personnel needs and scheduling work to meet deadlines. - Communication (10%):
Communicate results in oral presentations and written communication, and represent the organization in meetings or teleconferences to resolve questions and coordinate work. - Travel:
Requires up to 10% travel time. - Clearance:
Ability to obtain a U.S. Level security clearance.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or a Graduate Degree with 0–2 years of experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 6 years of experience.
- At least 4 years of relevant industry experience in systems engineering, preferably in aerospace or defense, with strong expertise in systems engineering disciplines and liquid rocket propulsion.
- Advanced degree in a relevant field is preferred.
- Experience with IBM DOORS and model‑based systems engineering methodologies.
- U.S. Level Secret Security Clearance.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California is $80,500 - $149,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary; final offers may vary based on experience and location. L3
