Xometry is looking to add an experienced sheet metal cost estimator to its Pre‑Sales Engineering team. The role focuses on client quoting, supplier sourcing, production planning, and supporting on‑time order fulfillment. Candidates should have at least 7 years of manufacturing experience, CAD proficiency, knowledge of sheet metal design and fabrication methods, experience communicating manufacturability feedback, costing skills, and strong technical communication.
Responsibilities
- Analyze engineering models/drawings to define fabrication sequences that meet design intent and quality
- Make accurate estimations considering materials, tooling, manufacturing times, inspection times and equipment
- Collaborate with machinists, quality, engineering, management and other team members to satisfy customer needs
- Source materials and finishes
- Estimate sheet metal costs for prototype, low‑volume and high‑volume quantities
Must Have Knowledge
- Variety of sheet metal fabrication technologies
- Programming and setup of water jet, laser, punch press, brake and simple custom tooling
- Welding practices and cost estimation
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Protocols, standards, technologies and machining applications
- Reviewing RFQs to determine material requirements, processing and routing
- Communicating with customers to define requirements and expectations
- Working with outside vendors/services to achieve competitive pricing
- Consolidating outside and internal process costs (engineering, fabrication, post‑fabrication assembly, finishing, QC)
- Creating detailed quote packages for final review
- Managing quote logs and KPI tracking
Ability To
- Interpret engineering solid models, drawings and GD&T
- Provide technical support to machinists and process engineers during fabrication operations
- Demonstrate strong organizational discipline
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings and specifications
- Analyze and review DFM problems
- Operate effectively in a team environment
Salary and Benefits
- Estimated base salary range: $86,000 – $111,000 annually, plus commission based on performance
