About the RoleSprint Ray’s Hardware R&D Project team develops production-ready hardware that dental professionals can rely on. Through a deeply hands‑on engineering approach, we transform advanced innovation into robust, manufacturable products that perform consistently in clinical environments.
As a Design Engineer, you support the development of hardware programs by contributing to mechanical design, prototyping, testing, and documentation under the guidance of senior engineers. You work hands‑on across the product development lifecycle, helping turn new concepts into validated, production‑capable designs. This role is ideal for an early‑career engineer looking to deepen their technical skills while gaining exposure to full product development in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities- Own mechanical design and development of major hardware products from concept through production and sustaining.
- Lead technical trade studies, architecture decisions, and risk mitigation related to performance, reliability, cost, and schedule.
- Drive detailed CAD design, tolerance analysis, and GD&T for assigned systems.
- Design, build, and validate rapid and high‑fidelity prototypes to de‑risk designs early.
- Apply Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles to ensure scalable, high‑yield production.
- Plan and execute experiments and validation testing using structured, data‑driven methodologies.
- Define critical‑to‑quality (CTQ) requirements and acceptance criteria to support mass production.
- Develop fixtures, jigs, and test equipment to support characterization, validation, and manufacturing readiness.
- Create and maintain high‑quality engineering documentation including CAD models, drawings, test reports, and specifications.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with Research, Electrical, Firmware, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and Supply Chain teams.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to design reviews, best practices, and continuous improvement.
- Support production issues, failure analysis, and post‑launch design improvement efforts.
- 6–9 years of mechanical engineering or product development experience delivering complex hardware products to production.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Strong hands‑on experience with prototyping, mechanical assembly, and iterative design.
- Advanced proficiency in CAD (Solid Works preferred).
- Strong experience creating and reviewing GD&T‑compliant drawings and tolerance analyses.
- Demonstrated experience with experiment design, validation testing, and data analysis.
- Experience with electro‑mechanical systems integration.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, injection molding, additive manufacturing).
- Experience in regulated or quality‑driven environments (medical, dental, or similar) is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and ability to influence technical outcomes across teams.
