Role OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Fire Alarm & Low Voltage Engineer/Estimator to lead design, takeoffs, submittals, and estimating for fire alarm and low-voltage systems across commercial projects. This role blends technical knowledge with estimating accuracy and field coordination.
Key Responsibilities- Design and engineer fire alarm & low-voltage systems to code and project specs
- Prepare detailed takeoffs, BOMs, and labor estimates
- Work with plans, specs, submittals, and shop drawings
- Coordinate with GC, AHJ, and vendors for approvals and clarifications
- Select equipment, devices, and technologies based on project requirements
- Prepare RFI’s, system risers, wiring schedules, and panel layouts
- Assist PMs and field team during installation and commissioning
- Maintain cost databases, unit pricing, vendor quotes, and labor factors
- Review addenda and value-engineering opportunities
- Participate in pre-construction meetings and turnover packages
- 3+ years in fire alarm/low-voltage design and estimating (commercial)
- Proficient with NFPA 72, NEC, and local fire codes
- Strong skills in low-voltage plans, CAD, design software, and submittals
- Experience with commercial projects (TI, office, retail, industrial, institutional)
- Accurate takeoff and estimating skills for materials & labor
- Preferred: NICET certification, vendor/manufacturer training (e.g., Notifier, EST, FCI, Silent Knight)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple bids
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Must be local to the area to be considered.
