Job Scope:
Generally responsible for supervision and technical direction over a team of engineers and designers as a lead engineer. Duties include total delivery of the electrical and instrumentation deliverables and services on time, within the performance budget, and meeting quality expectations. The role requires advanced engineering work, serves as a technical specialist for complex assignments, and utilizes project controls for cost, schedule, and quality.
Work will be performed with minimal supervision.
- Reviewing and approving all electrical deliverables.
- Validating professional service and construction estimates at the beginning of a project, and tracking changes as the project progresses.
- Producing professional service estimates in accordance with departmental standards for project deliverables, studies, and proposals.
- Establishing design criteria, incorporating client requirements, estimate and scope basis, and design basis that meet applicable state, local, and federal standards and codes. Ensuring permitting requirements are established and communicated to the team.
- Initiating timely change notices when deviation occurs from scope, affecting schedule, deliverables, or cost.
- Planning and organizing the work of the team, communicating the plan to the team, project leadership, and client.
- Maintaining control of the project by tracking discipline performance, budget progress, schedule commitments, and quality standards, and utilizing available project controls tools.
- Delegating work to engineers and designers based on technical skills and experience, and following up to ensure progress and quality.
- Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines and following up to ensure efficient progress and quality.
- Producing estimate‑level preliminary designs and material take‑offs suitable for the level of estimate performed.
- Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks.
- Following department design and drafting standards in all work.
- Preparing detailed design calculations and sketches, organized for efficient checking and drafting. Deliverables include calculations, construction specifications, and design documents.
- Ensuring construction specifications meet codes, specifications, and design criteria; checking calculations of other engineers for accuracy and conformance.
- Monitoring drawings in progress to ensure conformance to design calculations and specifications.
- Assisting the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems and ensuring sufficient sketches for engineering drawings.
- Reviewing and checking vendor and discipline drawings for electrical/instrumentation input.
- Producing bid packages to enable procurement of materials or subcontract pricing.
- Participating in planning training programs, continuous education opportunities, and professional development of staff.
- Identifying and developing work‑sharing packages for interoffice execution support and providing leadership for communication and execution within scope, schedule, and budget.
Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is required.
RegistrationProfessional Engineering registration is highly preferred.
ExperienceFifteen or more years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering.
