Position SummarySilvus Technologies is seeking an Engineering Technician – Electronics to perform hands‑on laboratory work, execute product qualification and environmental stress tests, assist design engineers with component‑level debugging, and facilitate smooth transitions to manufacturing (NPI). The role reports to the Director of Hardware Engineering Operations and is 100% onsite, Monday through Friday, at the West Los Angeles headquarters.
Responsibilities- Execute detailed functional, parametric, and performance tests on RF, digital, and mechanical designs under guidance from hardware development engineers.
- Support product qualification by setting up, configuring, and monitoring units under environmental stress such as thermal cycling, humidity, shock, and vibration to meet internal quality plans.
- Perform precision SMT soldering and rework down to fine‑pitch and 0201 component sizes; construct custom test fixtures, fabricate cable/wire harnesses, and assemble mechanical prototypes.
- Assist engineers in isolating component‑level, board‑level, and system‑level defects through schematic analysis and use of laboratory diagnostic tools.
- Set up, calibrate, and operate RF and electronic lab instruments including VNAs, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, vector signal generators, power meters, and programmable power supplies.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and production teams on New Product Introduction (NPI), building and validating reference test configurations and assembly workflows for contract manufacturers.
- Collect, analyze, and document test data; maintain engineering notebooks, draft failure analysis reports, and develop standard operating procedures for new test setups.
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and ESD‑compliant laboratory environment, track tools, coordinate routine calibrations, and manage component inventories.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED with 5 years of direct electronics or RF hardware support experience, ORAssociate’s degree in Electronics Engineering Technology (ASET) or related field with 3 years of experience as an electronics or hardware support technician in R&D, product validation, or advanced manufacturing, OR Equivalent formal military technical training (e.g., Navy A‑School, Air Force PMEL, Army PMOS) with hands‑on electronics or RF hardware experience.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex electrical schematics, PCB layout prints, assembly drawings, mechanical drawings, and multi‑tier Bills of Materials.
- Exceptional hands‑on mechanical assembly and soldering skills, including replacement of fine‑pitch ICs, QFNs, and passive components under a laboratory microscope.
- Knowledge of hand‑assembly tools, common screw types, component packages, and wire gauges.
- Strong familiarity with the operation of digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, variable power supplies, and electronic loads.
- Certification with IPC‑A‑610 and/or J‑STD‑001 standards.
- Experience with basic scripting (Python, LabVIEW) to control instrumentation via GPIB, USB, or Ethernet.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
- Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident) due to federal contracts.
- All employment contingent upon successful completion of a background check and drug test.
- Basic knowledge of digital electronics systems and RF system design.
- Working knowledge of thermal interface materials, gaskets, thread locker, and conformal coating.
- Familiarity with environmental and reliability standards (IP, IPC, JEDEC, MIL‑STD).
- Ability to manage priorities across multiple projects independently.
- Exceptional methodical troubleshooting and critical thinking skills, with perseverance on complex intermittent hardware issues.
