New Space Technical is supporting an exciting New Space company as it expands its specialist engineering team. We're seeking an experienced Senior Astrodynamics Engineer to work on technically challenging programmes at the forefront of the commercial space industry.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of advanced modelling, simulation and analytical capabilities within a collaborative R&D environment. You'll work across the full development lifecycle, applying expertise in astrodynamics, state estimation and software development to solve complex engineering challenges.
Whether your background is in commercial space, defence, research or another technically demanding sector, this role offers the opportunity to work on innovative projects alongside a highly experienced multidisciplinary team.
The OpportunityWorking alongside software, systems and mission engineers, you'll develop advanced modelling, simulation and orbit analysis capabilities, supporting mission planning, system performance and the development of next-generation engineering solutions.
You’ll have the opportunity to influence algorithm development, contribute to technical strategy and work with modern software tools to solve complex real-world engineering problems.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement advanced orbit determination and state estimation algorithms.
- Perform orbit analysis, trajectory propagation and mission analysis for complex space systems.
- Develop analytical tools to support trajectory analysis, mission planning and system performance assessment.
- Design and implement software for modelling, simulation and data analysis.
- Develop automated tools to improve analytical capability and engineering efficiency.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate analytical capabilities into wider software solutions.
- Validate algorithms through simulation, modelling and performance testing.
- Produce high-quality technical documentation and engineering reports.
- Participate in technical reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support and mentor junior engineers where appropriate.
- Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Astrodynamics, Applied Mathematics, Physics or a related discipline.
- Commercial or research experience in astrodynamics, orbit determination, mission analysis, guidance, navigation and control (GNC), spacecraft dynamics or related engineering disciplines.
- Strong understanding of orbital mechanics, estimation theory and dynamic system modelling.
- Programming experience using Python

MATLAB or similar scientific computing languages. - Experience developing modelling, simulation or analytical software.
- Strong mathematical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience with Extended Kalman Filters (EKF), Unscented Kalman Filters (UKF), batch estimation or similar techniques.
- Experience in mission analysis, trajectory optimisation, navigation, Space Domain Awareness (SDA) or Space Surveillance & Tracking (SST).
- Familiarity with astrodynamics and mission design software.
- Experience developing software for scientific, aerospace or defence applications.
- Experience working within complex engineering or safety-critical environments.
- Previous technical leadership or mentoring experience.
