Job DescriptionSenior Research and Development (R&D) Systems Engineer – reporting to the R&D Director for Communication Systems. Based at Silvus Technologies’ headquarters in West Los Angeles, CA, the role is a hybrid schedule with a minimum of three onsite days per week.
Role & Responsibilities- Design, simulation, prototyping, and testing of wireless communication and sensing projects and products.
- Develop and maintain MATLAB and C/C++‑based simulators.
- Perform fixed‑point design and simulation to support hardware implementation.
- Work hands‑on with Silvus radio products and R&D prototypes.
- Conduct system testing and characterization using lab equipment for signal generation, channel emulation, spectrum analysis, etc.
- Create custom test utilities and data‑capture/analysis scripts.
- Plan and execute field tests, coordinating with hardware/software engineers for realistic testing environments.
- Document results in technical documentation and presentations.
- Travel semi‑frequently for feature testing and demonstrations.
- Minimum Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Minimum 6 years of communication systems design experience.
- Fluency in C/C++, MATLAB, and/or Python.
- Strong working knowledge of RF signal propagation, channel modeling, and digital communication technologies.
- Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident) due to federal contract requirements.
- Successful completion of background check and drug test.
- Experience with cognitive radio, interference mitigation, and RF sensing.
- Knowledge of mesh networking, medium access control, and routing.
- Familiarity with MIMO, OFDM, and basic digital signal processing techniques.
Physical Requirements
- Office environment with occasional exposure to heat, cold, and allergens during field tests or demonstrations.
- Must be able to lift equipment up to 20lb, bend, reach, kneel, squat, and walk/move in labs.
$140,000 – $200,000 per year (range based on experience).
