Job DescriptionSilvus is looking for an Engineering Technician – Electronics to support our hardware engineering operations. The role involves hands‑on electronics laboratory work, executing product qualification and environmental stress tests, debugging, and facilitating smooth transitions to manufacturing (NPI). The position is 100% onsite, Monday through Friday, at Silvus Technologies’ headquarters in West Los Angeles, CA.
Role and Responsibilities- Development Testing & Execution:
Execute detailed functional, parametric, and performance tests on RF, digital, and mechanical designs under the guidance of hardware development engineers. - Product Qualification Support:
Set up, configure, and monitor units under test through environmental stress—thermal cycling, humidity, shock, and vibration—to meet internal quality plans and standards. - Hands‑On Laboratory Operations:
Perform precision SMT soldering and rework down to fine‑pitch and 0201 component sizes; construct custom test fixtures, fabricate cable/wire harnesses, and assemble mechanical prototypes. - Hardware Debugging & Troubleshooting:
Assist engineers in isolating component‑level, board‑level, and system‑level defects; read electrical schematics and use diagnostic tools to identify root causes of hardware failures. - Test Equipment Management:
Set up, calibrate, and operate RF and electronic lab instruments—including VNAs, spectrum analyzers, digital oscilloscopes, vector signal generators, power meters, and programmable power supplies. - Manufacturing & NPI Support:
Interface with manufacturing, engineering, and production teams to support New Product Introduction (NPI); build, validate, and document reference test configurations and assembly workflows for transfer to contract manufacturers. - Data Collection & Documentation:
Log, analyze, and format raw test data; maintain engineering notebooks, produce failure analysis reports, and draft SOPs for new test setups. - Lab Maintenance & Safety:
Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and ESD‑compliant lab environment; track tools, coordinate calibration intervals for instrumentation, and manage component inventories. - Other related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED with 5 years of direct electronics or RF hardware support experience,
** OR** - Associate’s degree in Electronics Engineering Technology (ASET) or a related field with 3 years of electronics or hardware support experience in R&D, product validation, or advanced manufacturing,
** OR** - Equivalent formal military technical training (e.g., Navy A‑School, Air Force PMEL, Army PMOS 94 series) with hands‑on electronics or RF hardware experience.
- Proven ability to read, interpret, and navigate complex schematics, PCB layouts, assembly drawings, mechanical drawings, and multi‑tier Bills of Materials.
- Exceptional mechanical assembly and soldering skills, including fine‑pitch IC, QFN, and passive component replacement under a microscope.
- Knowledge of hand assembly tools, screw types, component packages, and wire gauges.
- Strong familiarity with digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, variable power supplies, and electronic loads.
- IPC‑A‑610 and/or J‑STD‑001 certified.
- Basic scripting skills (Python, LabVIEW) to control instrumentation via GPIB, USB, or Ethernet are highly desirable.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
