Job Description & How to Apply Below
Environmental Engineering — AI Data Trainer
We're looking for environmental engineering experts to help train and improve advanced AI models. Your domain knowledge will directly shape how AI reasons through complex problems in water treatment, air quality, hazardous waste, and environmental compliance — making a real impact on how these models serve engineers and scientists worldwide. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. You set your schedule and work on your own terms.
AboutThe Role
- Organization:
Alignerr - Type:
Hourly Contract - Location:
Remote - Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
- Design Complex Engineering Problems — Craft advanced, domain-specific challenges spanning contaminant transport, mass balance in treatment plants, hydrology, pollutant dispersion, and Life Cycle Assessments (LCA)
- Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Develop rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions — including chemical dosage calculations, hydraulic flow models, and remediation plans — that serve as benchmark "golden responses" for AI training
- Audit AI Outputs — Critically evaluate AI-generated environmental impact statements, remediation strategies, and mathematical proofs for technical accuracy, regulatory compliance (EPA, ISO 14001), and safety
- Refine AI Reasoning — Identify logical errors in AI-generated responses — such as incorrect stoichiometry, flawed unit conversions, or failure to account for secondary environmental impacts — and provide structured feedback to improve model performance
- Work Independently — Complete task-based assignments asynchronously on your own schedule
- Pursuing or holding a Master's or PhD in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering (environmental focus), or a closely related field
- Strong foundational knowledge in one or more of: aquatic chemistry, wastewater process design, air quality engineering, or hazardous waste remediation
- Able to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and precisely in writing
- Detail-oriented — especially when it comes to unit conversions, chemical equations, and regulatory logic
- Self-motivated and comfortable working independently
- No prior AI experience required
- Experience with data annotation, quality review, or evaluation workflows
- Familiarity with environmental modeling software (e.g., AERMOD, SWMM, or similar tools)
- Background in EHS compliance or environmental impact assessment
- Work on cutting-edge AI projects with leading AI research labs
- Fully remote and asynchronous — work when and where you want
- Freelance perks: autonomy, flexibility, and collaboration with experts across the globe
- Apply your specialized expertise to a genuinely novel and intellectually stimulating challenge
- Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
