Location: Woodland Hills, California (Onsite)
Clearance: Secret Clearance
Role OverviewAn opportunity exists for a Material and Process Engineer to join a team focused on mission-enabling solutions. This role involves defining engineering requirements to develop, select, and recommend parts, materials, and processes used in product design and manufacturing. The position supports the development and production of optimized product lines.
Key Responsibilities- Support the definition of engineering requirements for parts, materials, processes, and manufacturing technologies.
- Qualify new materials, parts, and processes to meet requirements and manage supplier qualification programs.
- Support engineering design reviews and participate in failure analyses for metallic parts and processes.
- Assist in supplier qualification and respond to routine technical inquiries.
- Perform analyses to characterize performance or determine causes of failures, recommending corrective actions.
- Coordinate and support lab activities and compile test data for interpretation.
- Use project management practices to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements.
- Support the creation and revision of material and process specifications, work instructions, and test plans.
- Support investigations of non-conformances and supplier deviations.
- Maintain engineering records and support configuration control and design reviews.
- Communicate technical findings to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Education: A Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline is required, preferably in Materials Science and Engineering. Experience requirements vary with education level: 5 years with a Bachelor's, 3 years with a Master's, or 1 year with a PhD.
Experience: This position may be filled at multiple levels. For the Principal level, 5 years of engineering experience is required with a Bachelor's. For the Senior Principal level, 8 years of engineering experience is required with a Bachelor's. All candidates must have experience in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability manufacturing environments, including at least 2 years with manufacturing processes such as machining, forging, forming, fastening, welding/brazing, and plating/coating.
Technical
Skills:
Practical knowledge of metallurgy for ferrous and nonferrous alloys, heat treatment, corrosion/fatigue fundamentals, and common materials testing methods is required. Candidates should have hands‑on exposure to metallographic sample preparation and basic lab techniques. The ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications related to metallic materials is also necessary.
Additional: Must be willing and able to obtain a DOD Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications- Candidates with an active secret clearance are highly preferred for this position
- A Master's degree in materials science and engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, metallurgical engineering, or polymer engineering.
- A PhD in material science or materials engineering.
- Experience mentoring and developing employees.
- Knowledge of physical and mechanical properties and evaluation methods (e.g., tensile strength, fatigue, SEM, non‑destructive inspection).
- Detailed knowledge of production processes such as forging, casting, coating, plating, heat treating, welding, additive manufacturing, or composite manufacturing.
- Hands‑on experience in a high‑production manufacturing environment.
- Experience with technical review of materials processing.
- Effective written and interpersonal communication skills.
