About the Role

As a Mechanical Engineer II within Sprint Ray’s Hardware R&D team, you will drive all phases of a project from concept to manufacturing to end of life. You will apply advanced mechanical engineering principles to develop new architectures, design prototypes, evaluate system feasibility, design for manufacture, and establish quality standards. This role contributes directly to the technical foundation of future Sprint Ray products by transforming conceptual ideas into experimentally supported engineering insights.

You will collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, firmware, and process engineering teams to establish research hypotheses, design experiments, build and test prototypes, analyze data, and generate engineering recommendations. Your work will help define the pathways from exploratory concepts into robust product-level designs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research investigations in mechanical systems, electromechanical architectures, and process workflows for future hardware platforms.
  • Generate and evaluate proof-of-concept mechanisms, structures, and subsystems through CAD design, simulation, prototyping, and experimental validation.
  • Design and execute experiments using scientific methods, including test planning, statistical analysis, modeling, and interpretation of results.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to transition research findings into engineering requirements and early product architectures.
  • Develop prototype jigs, fixtures, and test equipment to characterize performance, reliability, and process behavior.
  • Document results through technical reports, presentations, and engineering specifications.
  • Identify risks, unknowns, and dependencies associated with new concepts; propose mitigation strategies and alternative solutions.
  • Design for Manufacture and Assembly.
Required Qualifications
  • 2 years of product development experience, leading a whole product or subsystem to market.
  • Experience designing and building prototypes.
  • Strong experiment design methodology.
  • Experience with electrical systems.
  • Strong CAD skills (Solidworks preferred).
  • Simulation Experience (FEA and or CFD).
Preferred Qualifications
