LEAF, Inc., a dynamic project management and engineering services firm, is seeking an Associate Planner within our Urban Planning and Development department. In this role, you will support the preparation and review of planning documents, zoning analyses, development applications, and environmental compliance materials for engineering and architecture projects. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, interface with public agencies and clients, and contribute to community development initiatives.
Ideal candidates bring strong analytical skills, GIS proficiency, excellent communication, and a passion for innovative, sustainable urban planning solutions.
Responsibilities
- Support preparation and review of planning documents including zoning and land use analyses, development applications, and entitlement packages
- Conduct research and data analysis on land use, demographics, transportation, housing, and environmental constraints
- Prepare clear, concise staff reports, technical memoranda, and presentations for internal teams and client agencies
- Review development proposals and construction documents for consistency with zoning ordinances, general plans, and design guidelines
- Use GIS and related software to create maps, exhibits, and perform spatial analysis for planning and development projects
- Assist project managers with tracking project schedules, deliverables, and budgets to ensure timely and accurate completion of work
- Coordinate with engineers, architects, and other technical staff to resolve planning-related issues and support integrated project solutions
- Support community outreach activities, including preparation of meeting materials and participation in public meetings and workshops
- Assist with environmental review tasks, including data collection and documentation support for CEQA/NEPA and related processes
- Maintain organized project files, track conditions of approval, and support submittals to reviewing agencies and jurisdictions
Required Skills
- Urban and regional planning principles
- Land use and zoning analysis
- Reading and interpreting site plans and construction documents
- GIS mapping and spatial analysis (e.g., Arc
- GIS)
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power
- Point)
- Technical writing and report preparation
- Data analysis and demographic/land use research
- Familiarity with CEQA/NEPA and environmental review
- Public speaking and presentation skills
- Stakeholder and public engagement
- Project coordination and schedule tracking
- Knowledge of general plans, specific plans, and design guidelines
- Basic understanding of civil engineering and architectural concepts
