Position SummaryWe are seeking a Senior AMI Engineer to support the validation, testing, and deployment of next-generation Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI 2.0) solutions within a large-scale electric utility environment.
This position will work closely with internal engineering and operations teams as well as external metering vendors to validate metering hardware and functionality, support system integration and testing, troubleshoot technical issues, and prepare AMI technologies for field deployment.
The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with AMI, smart metering, smart grid technologies, system testing, and utility metering environments.
Key Responsibilities- Support technical validation of AMI 2.0 metering solutions
, including hardware and system functionality - Conduct functionality and hardware specification testing of qualified metering solutions
- Support integration and system testing of AMI technologies and grid management applications
- Collaborate directly with metering vendors on solution development, technical issues, and product enhancements
- Evaluate AMI system interoperability and technical feasibility
- Troubleshoot metering technologies, customer applications, and field tools
- Support deployment and troubleshooting of AMI 2.0 technologies
- Participate in AMI 2.0 Field Test pilots supporting foundational use cases
- Identify and resolve technical issues discovered during testing and deployment preparation
- Develop procedures, technical documentation, and job aids for Field Technicians and Meter Operations teams
- Support field readiness and pre-deployment activities
- Coordinate with engineering, IT, operations, vendors, and other cross-functional stakeholders
- Support change management activities associated with AMI 2.0 deployment

- 5+ years of experience with metering systems, smart grid technologies, or closely related engineering environments
- Strong understanding of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems
- Experience with smart meters or utility metering technologies
- Strong understanding of AMI interoperability concepts and standards
- Experience with hardware, functionality, integration, and/or system testing
- Experience working within laboratory or technical testing environments
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Experience working with cross-functional technical teams
- Ability to work effectively with external technology or metering vendors
- Strong technical documentation skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Electric utility industry experience
- Smart grid or grid modernization experience
- Utility operations knowledge
- AMI field deployment experience
