Our client, a manufacturing business unit, is seeking a Plant Controller to serve as the senior financial leader to oversee all aspects of plant-level financial management, including cost accounting, inventory control, financial reporting, forecasting, and strategic business partnership. Reporting to the Senior Controller, this role provides leadership to the cost accounting team while partnering closely with plant operations and business unit leadership.
The Plant Controller is responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, maintaining strong internal controls, and driving continuous process improvements that support operational and corporate objectives.
Compensation: $160k to $175k base salary + bonus + RSUs
ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership & Business Partnership (25%)
- Serve as the primary finance business partner to the Business Unit General Manager and plant leadership, providing financial guidance and strategic insights.
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial planning processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning.
- Present financial results, variance analyses, and forward-looking recommendations to senior leadership.
- Promote financial accountability across Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, and other functional teams by integrating financial discipline into business decisions.
- Partner with corporate finance on business unit P&L management and support capital investments, acquisitions, restructuring initiatives, and other strategic analyses.
- Oversee the standard costing system, including material, labor, subcontracting, and overhead cost structures.
- Manage inventory reconciliations to the general ledger and balance sheet accounts.
- Analyze gross margin, cost of sales, inventory trends, inventory turnover, and production yield metrics.
- Prepare audit schedules, financial support, and documentation for internal and external audits.
- Maintain compliance with SOX requirements and ensure a strong internal control environment.
- Support headcount planning and manufacturing cost forecasting using financial planning tools.
Inventory Accounting & Control (10%)
- Direct the planning and execution of physical inventory counts in partnership with manufacturing operations.
- Oversee reconciliation of physical inventory results within the ERP system across applicable locations.
- Review vendor reconciliations completed by the logistics team and ensure discrepancies are resolved promptly.
- Monitor inventory movement trends and communicate financial impacts to plant leadership.
Financial Reporting & Analysis (20%)
- Validate GAAP and non-GAAP financial results through detailed cost of sales analysis.
- Lead product profitability and customer margin analyses.
- Analyze manufacturing and purchasing variances, including production order and purchase price variances (PPV).
- Develop and maintain financial dashboards, KPIs, and management reporting tools to support operational performance.
Business Processes & Team Leadership (15%)
- Ensure timely completion of month-end close activities, including settlement and review of production orders.
- Oversee standard cost updates, annual cost rolls, and maintenance of activity and overhead rates.
- Champion ERP best practices and identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, and efficiencies.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the cost accounting team while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or CMA designation preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including at least 3 years in a Plant Controller, Finance Manager, or senior cost accounting leadership role within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong leadership experience managing and developing finance teams in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
- Deep knowledge of standard costing, manufacturing cost accounting, inventory accounting, and financial reporting.
- Experience with large ERP systems; SAP experience strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of SOX compliance and internal controls.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Experience with financial planning and forecasting tools such as Adaptive Insights or similar platforms preferred.
- Experience with semiconductor, electronics manufacturing, or other high-mix manufacturing environments preferred.
