RELATIONSHIP MANAGER II WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

Responsible for acquiring small business and personal clients, and deepening existing relationships with the intent of integrating both business & personal clients. The role acts as a trusted strategic advisor, providing financial advice and consistently connecting client needs with CNB's products and service offerings. A clearly defined business development plan is consistently applied and incorporates a disciplined sales and service practice.

The focus is on acquisition of new relationships as well as retention and expansion of existing relationships in the portfolio, while collaborating with other CNB areas to ensure exemplary client service.

Key success measures include acquisition of new personal and small business clients, deposit and fee income growth, loan and line volume (including CRA‑eligible fundings), risk management mitigation, and qualitative sales, networking, and community activities that generate volume and represent City National with polished professionalism. The candidate must be in good standing under the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (Safe Act) and must be registered/licensed with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry, or be able to be registered under the Safe Act.

WHAT

WILL YOU DO?
  • Acquire and deepen client relationships – generate new business and consumer client relationships within assigned segments and expand to become the main bank option.
  • Manage a portfolio of existing clients and actively deepen relationships through cross‑selling efforts.
  • Deliver an exceptional & consistent client experience – ensure needs are met and escalations resolved appropriately.
  • Improve Sales & Banking Acumen – continuously develop banking acumen and sales practices through collaboration and internal training.
  • Capture a holistic view of client needs – use data insights to provide sound financial advice and conduct discovery activities.
  • Maintain business & risk management – stay within delegated lending authorities and ensure decisions comply with policies and regulations.
  • Partner with a collaborative mindset – introduce clients to the right partners in the CNB ecosystem and champion the Global Relationship Management approach.
  • Interact professionally with all levels of bank personnel and clients.
  • Maximize client contact – network and be visible in the community, represent the bank in civic and professional activities.
  • Comply with all operational, credit, and regulatory requirements (e.g., BSA, KYB, CRE, Fair Lending, Code of Conduct).
  • Demonstrate client centricity – understand realities, empathize with challenges, and steward the relationship through tailored advice.
  • Business development – nurture existing relationships and pursue new business via networking and relationship building.
  • Collaborate with PBB (GRM) and other divisions to win business and achieve shared goals.
  • Communicate client needs and CNB value proposition clearly and effectively.
  • Apply critical thinking to analyze situations and translate insights into decisions.
  • Show adaptability – manage ambiguity and pivot to advise clients as needed.
  • Organize effectively – prioritize activities and deliver consistent client experience.
  • Maintain professionalism – conduct business in a polished manner appropriate for preferred clients.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct sales experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a financial institution.
  • Good standing under the Safe Act and registration/licensing with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry.
Additional Qualifications
  • Deep knowledge of CNB’s personal and business banking products.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory environment, including CIP and KYC.
  • Awareness of the economic environment and its client impact.
  • Ability to review financial statements and advise accordingly.
  • Negotiation skills to balance bank and client interests.
  • Knowledge of CNB policies, procedures, and regulatory obligations.
