Overview

This position will perform the traditional responsibilities of the actuarial department including pricing, reserving, predictive modeling, management reporting, and other special projects as needed. Duties and responsibilities will require strong analytic skills and the ability to effectively communicate facts and information to others.

Responsibilities

1. Risk Analysis and Assessment

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret large datasets to support actuarial analyses and business decision-making.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly actuarial reports and performance metrics.
  • Identify trends, patterns, and emerging risks that may affect profitability, growth, and risk exposure.

2. Actuarial Modeling

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance actuarial models for pricing, reserving, and forecasting purposes.
  • Perform quantitative analyses using Excel and other analytical and programming tools.
  • Validate model assumptions, methodologies, and results to ensure accuracy and reliability.

3. Pricing and Rate Filing

  • Analyze claims experience, loss trends, and evaluate risks associated with insurance products and business operations
  • Recommend pricing and rating modifications to maintain profitability and market competitiveness.
  • Support rate filing activities, including data preparation, actuarial justification, and regulatory responses.

4. Reserve Analysis and Forecasting

  • Assist with quarterly reserving analyses to estimate future claim liabilities and reserve requirements.
  • Monitor reserve adequacy and support financial reporting and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and business planning activities.

5. Professional Development

  • Progress toward Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) credentials through successful completion of actuarial examinations.
  • Stay current with industry developments, regulatory changes, and emerging actuarial methodologies.
Qualifications Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics or comparable discipline required.
Work Experience
  • 2-3 exams from the Casualty Actuarial Society (it is expected that incumbent continue to work toward and ultimately obtain Fellowship).
  • 3 years of Property & Casualty pricing and reserving experience required
  • Experience in Workers' Compensation or Farm lines industry preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have strong spreadsheet and database software skills.
  • Prior experience with statistical software preferred.
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
Pay, Benefits, and Other Information

The expected salary range for this position is $93,070 to $116,338. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law. Qualifications may warrant placement in a different job level.
