We are seeking an energetic Estate Planning Attorney / Estate Specialist / Advanced Planner with 10+ years of experience in wealth management, estate law and/or financial planning to join a dynamic and fast-growing Advanced Planning Team within a private equity-backed Registered Investment Advisor (RIA). As an early team member, you’ll help shape a technology-driven, client centric planning offering. This highly visible role blends hands-on technical oversight with strategic advisory responsibilities, serving as the liaison between internal advisors, clients, and external counsel.
The role reports to the Head of Estate, Tax, and Financial Planning and collaborates with the firm’s Center of Excellence to deliver comprehensive financial and estate planning solutions. You’ll work with high-net-worth clients, leveraging cutting-edge technology to develop strategies around retirement planning, investment management, estate planning, and income tax optimization.
The ideal candidate is a JD, LLM, and/or Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), with deep technical expertise and a genuine enthusiasm for helping clients understand complex issues. Bonus if you are a Certified Business Exit Planning Advisor or have like designation. You are passionate about client engagement, estate planning, and collaborative learning. This is a unique opportunity to grow within a firm that values innovation, mentorship, and strategic thinking.
The candidate will ideally be based out of Los Angeles but remote is OK if they are willing to travel.
Duties and Responsibilities- Serve as the firm’s technical authority on estate planning.
- Meet with advisors and clients to identify planning opportunities, evaluate current structures, account titling, beneficiaries, and discuss solutions aligned with the client’s goals.
- Utilize estate and financial planning software to build and maintain comprehensive client plans. Experience with eMoney or other financial planning software a plus.
- Analyze and interpret estate documents (e.g., wills, trusts, powers of attorney) and software outputs for client presentations and internal planning.
- Review existing estate planning and business succession structures, summarize key issues, and flag gaps or inefficiencies.
- Collaborate with outside counsel and other professional advisors to coordinate estate strategy implementation.
- Create client-facing materials and contribute to educational content for webinars, social media, and internal communications.
- Lead business exit planning conversations when clients are selling a company, transferring ownership, or transitioning liquidity.
- Support team development through mentorship and knowledge sharing.
- Participate in internal advisor training sessions and client seminars/webinars.
- Travel as appropriate and approximately 15-20%.
- Other duties as assigned.
- This job has no current supervisory responsibilities.
- 10+ years of estate planning experience across law firms, investment advisory, or family office services.
- At least one of JD, Tax LLM, Accredited Estate Planner (AEP), CFP® designation is required.
- Business Exit Planning designation is a plus.
- Ability to communicate complex tax concepts clearly.
- Experience reviewing gift/estate tax returns and advising on intergenerational wealth transfer strategies.
- Passion for client engagement, team collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Strong communication and project management and prioritization skills.
