Round Hill Search is working with a sophisticated and highly reputable law firm in Los Angeles for a Payroll Manager to serve as the liaison between the People Operations Team, Administration, and the Payroll Department. This position will oversee the Firm’s payroll functions, ensuring timely, accurate processing and compliance with government regulations.
Supervisory Responsibilities:- Assists in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training new staff in the payroll department.
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates, including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Prepares, distributes, and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Point of contact for audits (payroll, Workers’ Comp., etc.) and provides records and documentation for the same.
- Keeps up to date with payroll insights, guidelines, and trends in order to identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
- Prepare payroll general ledger document from ADP for uploading into the accounting system.
- Serves as the point of contact with ADP CSR and oversees management of the firm's account.
- Manages Payroll Tax filings/Jurisdictions in ADP.
- Assists with New State Jurisdiction setups.
- Reviews and approves manual payroll checks (terminations, bonuses, etc.).
- Review reconciliations such as Benefits and Overtime.
- Assists with organization and management of payroll guides and templates in the firm's document management systems.
- Ensures the department’s timely responses to ad hoc email requests from firm employees.
- Performs ad hoc assignments from the CFO and other firm management.
- Extensive knowledge of the payroll function, including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
- Strong multi-state payroll knowledge.
- The ability to communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of firm personnel.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficient with ADP software.
- 3+ years of related experience required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated hands‑on expertise with HRIS systems (SAP and Plan Source) to support payroll processing, benefits administration, and employee data management.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- May be required to lift 10 pounds at times.
Salary: $150,000 - $165,000, commensurate with your experience and qualifications
