Job Title:
Human Resources Specialist – Leave of Absence (LOA)
Pay Rate: $30/hour on W2 - $33/hour on W2
Duration: 4-6 months contract role
We are seeking a Human Resources Specialist – Leave of Absence (LOA) to manage the day-to-day administration of employee leave and reasonable accommodation requests for both union and non-union employees. This role serves as a key liaison between employees and internal and external partners to ensure compliance, efficiency, and a positive employee experience throughout the leave process.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage the interactive process for leave of absence and reasonable accommodation requests.
- Serve as liaison between employees and internal partners including HR Business Partners, Management, Legal, and Health Services, as well as external partners such as third-party leave administrators and Workers’ Compensation representatives.
- Coordinate and track various types of leave including Disability, Workers’ Compensation, Parental, Personal, and Professional leaves.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations including FMLA, CFRA, ADA, FEHA, and USERRA.
- Maintain accurate leave and accommodation documentation within HR systems and tracking tools.
- Submit and process HR transactions related to leave administration.
- Act as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries regarding leave policies and accommodations.
- Draft and distribute communications throughout the leave and accommodation process.
- Partner with HR Business Partners on attendance and complex leave matters.
- Support audit readiness and ensure proper documentation practices.
- Provide back‑up support to the HR team and assist with special projects as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business, Communications, or related field preferred; or certification in Leave of Absences.
- Minimum 2 years of HR experience with knowledge of leave of absence and disability principles, or 1 year of LOA‑specific HR experience.
- Knowledge of FMLA, ADA, Workers’ Compensation, and other applicable federal and state leave regulations required.
- Understanding of medical disability management practices.
- Experience supporting both union and non-union environments.
- SAP or other HRIS system experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and sound judgment.
- Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently.
