Project Overview
The USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences at the University of Southern California is recruiting multiple people for two remote roles on the Everyday Respect research project. The team analyzes communication between police officers and drivers using body‑worn video recordings to enhance transparency, accountability and our understanding of officer‑civilian interactions. Recent coverage of the project by LAist.
ResearchParticipants
Research participants will watch 2–5 police traffic stop videos and answer questions about their perceptions. Participation requires a minimum 2‑hour commitment, with up to 5 hours appreciated. The time includes an orientation session, video viewing, and answering questions. Visa gift card compensation ranges from $50–$100, depending on the duration.
Resource Employee:Video Annotators
Video annotators view body‑camera footage and record information using a coding manual. Early work focuses on objective measures (e.g., officer introductions, searches) and later work includes subjective assessments of communication. Data from both groups trains AI models that measure key aspects of officer‑driver communication.
