IT Director

OUR MISSION

Wellness Equity Alliance (WEA) is a novel national public health organization composed of a multidisciplinary team of population and public health experts. Our focus is on addressing healthcare disparities and the social determinants of health (SDoH) in under‑represented communities, particularly rural, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, justice‑impacted, homeless, Indigenous, immigrant, and other underserved populations.

WEA is implementing a groundbreaking School‑Based Health Center (SBHC) program in Bernalillo County, New Mexico. The program delivers health promotion, prevention, and treatment—including behavioral health, primary care, sexual health, and gender‑affirming services—via mobile units and brick‑and‑mortar clinics located in schools.

The Director of Information Technology is responsible for strategic planning, implementation, security, and management of all technology systems that support WEA’s clinical, administrative, and operational functions. The role ensures IT infrastructure, electronic health records (EHR), cybersecurity, and data systems are reliable, compliant, and aligned with the organization’s mission of delivering high‑quality patient care.

• Develop and execute the organization’s IT strategy in alignment with clinical and business goals.
• Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on technology investments, risks, and opportunities.
• Lead IT planning for organizational growth, new services, and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee all IT systems—including networks, servers, cloud services, hardware, and software—to ensure high availability and performance.
• Manage disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity plans.
• Oversee implementation, optimization, and maintenance of EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Athena, Next Gen, eClinical

• Partner with clinical leadership to improve workflows, data accuracy, and user experience.
• Manage interfaces between EHR, billing, labs, pharmacies, and other third‑party systems.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and other healthcare regulatory requirements.
• Establish and enforce cybersecurity policies, risk assessments, and incident response protocols.
• Monitor system security, access controls, and data privacy protections.
• Manage IT budgets, contracts, and vendor relationships.
• Negotiate service agreements and evaluate third‑party technology solutions.
• Ensure cost‑effective use of technology resources.
• Lead, mentor, and develop IT staff and contractors.
• Establish help desk standards and service level expectations.
• Ensure timely resolution of IT issues impacting patient care and operations.
• Oversee data integrity, reporting tools, and analytics systems.
• Support leadership with dashboards and data insights for operational and clinical decision‑making.

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• 7+ years of progressive IT experience, including leadership or management roles.
• Experience working in a healthcare or medical environment.
• Strong knowledge of EHR systems, HIPAA compliance, and healthcare IT operations.
• Proven experience managing IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and vendor relationships.

• Master’s degree in IT, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
• Healthcare IT certifications (e.g., CHCIO, CISSP, CISM, PMP).
• Experience supporting multi‑site medical organizations or FQHCs.
• Experience with cloud‑based systems and telehealth platforms.
