The United States District Court and the Probation and Pretrial Services Office for the Central District of California is recruiting for a Network Systems Administrator to join our Information Technology team. The Network Systems Administrator conducts and oversees the court unit’s networks and systems. The incumbent performs routine network administration as well as more complex network administration duties, including developing standards, recommending network infrastructure changes, and coordinating and implementing network security measures. The Network Systems Administrator is responsible for high level and long-term design and analysis of the court’s network systems. In addition, the incumbent also assists with supporting and maintaining virtual server environments.
RepresentativeDuties
- Plan, design, deploy, maintain, and support the court’s local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs) and virtual LANs (VLANs), including routers, firewalls, switches, wiring and other hardware as assigned.
- Administer and manage network security solutions, including firewalls, Virtual Private Networks, and wireless intrusion protection systems.
- Monitor the network to ensure security of data and access privileges.
- Analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end-user assistance and training where required.
- Manage Microsoft Active Directory on a Windows Server platform. Administer and maintain network end-user accounts and access rights.
- Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
- Plan and implement network hardware upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches.
- Monitor and maintain network availability, performance, and security, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
- Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
- Collaborate with IT management and staff, departments, and other agencies in the development, deployment, and support of new network-based programs and applications.
- Provide guidance and technical support to peers and serve as an escalation point for help desk related issues.
- Develop, maintain, and ensure the accuracy and completeness of network related technical documentation as needed. Help drive a consistent set of standards for equipment, configuration, and operational procedures.
- Operate and maintain VMware software for virtual servers and hosts.
- Responsible for operating and maintaining the growing virtualized desktop infrastructure based on hyperconverged systems within the court environment.
- Developing, testing, and implementing virtualized workstation images on laptops, desktops, and tablets.
- Updates disaster recovery plan and processes as related to network services and server virtualization.
- Troubleshoot and resolve major and minor issues with the virtualized infrastructure as needed.
- Five years of specialized experience, including at least one year equivalent to work at the CL 27.
OR
- Completion of a master’s degree or two years of graduate study (27 semester or 54 quarter hours) in an accredited university in computer science, or other field closely related to the subject matter of the position.
- Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience with data center solution design and configuration within customer environments.
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification.
- Network+ certification.
- A Bachelor of Arts or Sciences Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, or equivalent.
- Experience using Quest Kace, Forcepoint Security Manager, Apex One, Trend Micro Security Manager, and Splunk.
- Experience in all areas of Local and Wide-Area Network (LAN/WAN), Internet, and Wireless systems management and administration including system configuration, setup, troubleshooting, planning, designing, implementation, and user support; experience supporting network hardware (core switch, routers and switches, firewalls, access points) and telecommunications/VoIP equipment.
