Power BI & Fabric Analytics Engineer

Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, a global Am Law 50 firm, is seeking two Business Intelligence Developers to build the analytical outputs that turn the firm’s data assets into decisions. These roles are the direct delivery counterpart to the firm’s newly formed K&I Enterprise Intelligence function — one developer aligned to the intelligence strategy and reporting requirements driven by the Director of Enterprise Intelligence, and one aligned to the Foundation platform analytics and practice group intelligence needs managed by the Firm Intelligence Manager.

We prefer candidates who can work from the Los Angeles, New York or Washington DC offices but are open to all of the U.S. offices which include Century City, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Orange County, San Diego (Downtown), San Diego (Del Mar), San Francisco, and Silicon Valley.



Job Summary

The immediate tactical need is concrete: K&I’s two new leaders will generate a sustained pipeline of dashboard, reporting, and analytics requirements on behalf of practice groups and firm leadership. Without dedicated BI developers, those requirements compete for capacity against existing EA data commitments. These two roles give each K&I intelligence leader a dedicated analytical delivery partner and ensure that intelligence strategy translates into outputs that attorneys and leadership can actually use.

These are delivery roles. The right people are technically strong, detail-oriented, and get satisfaction from shipping clean, well-governed analytics that people actually use. They work closely with the Senior Intelligence Platform Engineer and take requirements from K&I stakeholders, translating them into production-quality BI solutions on Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.

Essential Functions

K&I Intelligence Analytics

• Serve as the analytical delivery partner to the K&I Enterprise Intelligence function — building the reports, dashboards, and data models that turn K&I intelligence strategy into outputs practice groups and firm leadership rely on
• Work directly with the Director of Enterprise Intelligence and Firm Intelligence Manager to understand practice group analytics requirements and translate them into governed, scalable BI solutions
• Build and maintain the Power BI and Fabric analytics layer that surfaces Foundation experience management data, competitive intelligence, and practice performance insights to attorneys and leadership

Analytics Delivery

• Design, build, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models that serve practice groups, business services, and firm leadership
• Develop and maintain data models in Microsoft Fabric, including lake houses and warehouses, to support intelligence and analytics workloads
• Write and optimize SQL and Python-based transformations to prepare data for analytical consumption
• Monitor report performance and data quality; proactively identify and resolve issues

Stakeholder Engagement

• Work with K&I and practice group stakeholders to gather and refine analytics requirements and translate them into well-structured, scalable solutions
• Support adoption by creating documentation and providing guidance to end users on self-service capabilities
• Contribute to AI-assisted analytics development where use cases and platform capabilities support it

Governance & Standards

• Apply data governance and security standards to all BI outputs — row-level security, data classification, sensitivity labels
• Collaborate with the Senior Intelligence Platform Engineer on the underlying data infrastructure that powers analytics workloads
• Ensure all deliverables align with enterprise architecture standards and the firm’s data governance framework

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on experience building production Power BI solutions — reports, dashboards, semantic models, and DAX
• Practical awareness of data governance — security and quality standards applied as a matter of course
• Curiosity about AI-assisted analytics and emerging BI platform capabilities
