Machine Learning Engineer, Search Ranking

For our client, we are seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer Search Ranking to join the team of a leader in the Media space. This role will lead work at the intersection of data, AI-enabled capabilities, and scalable technology delivery. You will work across engineering, product, operations, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into practical technology solutions. The position offers the opportunity to influence architecture, execution quality, and the technology capabilities that enable long-term growth within a Media environment.

Location:

Los Angeles, CA - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $229,000 - $343,000 annually

• Lead the design and development of machine learning models for Search ranking
• Own major ranking initiatives from problem definition to iteration
• Develop and improve ranking models using advanced techniques
• Build systems balancing multiple objectives such as relevance and user satisfaction
• Collaborate with product managers and engineers to define success metrics
• Analyze user behavior and search logs for improvement opportunities
• Design evaluation and monitoring frameworks for models

• Bachelor's Degree in computer science or equivalent work experience
• 8+ years of post-Bachelor's machine learning experience, or Master's + 7+ years, or PhD + 4 years
• Experience developing machine learning models for relevance ranking and personalization
• Proficient in large-scale data processing and ML tools like Tensor Flow and Py Torch
• Strong understanding of online experimentation and model debugging
• Proven leadership in complex technical projects across teams
• Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders
