Network Engineer
Aviation Network Infrastructure Specialist
This role involves maintaining and supporting the network infrastructure vital to aviation safety systems. The individual will be responsible for ensuring the uptime, performance, and security of IP-based networks supporting air traffic operations. This is a long-term, on-site position that requires regional travel within the Los Angeles, CA area to support multiple FAA locations.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the availability, performance, and security of FAA network infrastructure.
- Install, configure, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems.
- Support SD-WAN solutions across distributed environments.
- Install, terminate, and test fiber optic cabling (single-mode and multi-mode).
- Perform fiber testing using OTDR and certification tools.
- Monitor systems daily, analyze logs, and respond to incidents.
- Troubleshoot network issues across fiber, SD-WAN, and IP layers, escalating when necessary.
- Support network cutovers, migrations, and validate failover processes.
- Maintain accurate network diagrams, documentation, and configuration records.
- Travel throughout the region to support multiple locations, with expenses reimbursed.
Qualifications:
- This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.
- Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience, or equivalent with a combination of education and experience.
- Proven experience managing and supporting enterprise network environments.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).
- Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, or similar networking technologies.
- Experience with TDM-to-IP migrations and modern IP-based networking.
- Solid understanding of SD-WAN, fiber optics, and wireless LAN/WAN technologies.
- Familiarity with firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and network monitoring tools.
- Ability to interpret network diagrams and schematics.
- Experience with fiber testing tools (e.g., OTDR).
- Effective team collaboration and leadership skills.
Publishing Pay Range: $66.00 – $71.00 hourly
