Systems Admin / Field Technician - POS, Kiosk & PIN Pad Device Refresh
Contract Position
Location: Remote (configuration & scheduling) + local on-site support in one of the assigned regional markets, in order of preference:
1) Los Angeles,
2) Dallas,
3) Washington, DC,
4) Boston,
5) New York,
6) Kansas City
Terms: Contract, 9/28/2026 through end of year (12/31/2026), with possible extensions
Pay Rate: $40-45/Hr., depending on W2 or 1099, with expense reimbursement for local / regional travel
Position PurposeThis position supports the replacement of older POS terminals, kiosks, and PIN pads across theatre locations. A third-party vendor will handle the physical installation of new devices at each site; this role is responsible for remotely configuring those devices once installed.
In select high-density markets with limited local resource coverage, this role also includes hands-on, on-site installation and configuration support.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities- Remotely configure POS terminals, kiosks, and PIN pads following physical installation by the third-party install vendor.
- Provide local, on-site installation and configuration support in assigned regional market(s) where coverage is limited.
- Verify POS/kiosk/PIN pad functionality post-install: GUI, peripherals, network connectivity, and payment processing.
- Understand how PIN pads communicate with existing store infrastructure - ports, services, and software involved - to confirm payments are processing correctly after install.
- Troubleshoot configuration, hardware, and software issues related to the device refresh.
- Coordinate scheduling and installation details with the third-party install vendor, internal IT project manager, and on-site theatre staff.
- Use remote view/control tools and pre-written Power Shell/Python scripts to complete device configuration - this is largely a follow-the-script process, not custom scripting.
- Schedule and coordinate on-site visit windows directly with theatre staff, and walk non-technical personnel through what to expect during the install.
- Think on your feet when something doesn't go as planned - troubleshoot in the moment, and know when and how to elevate, including asking the right questions to get it resolved quickly.
- Document issues found during testing: clear description, steps to reproduce, logs, screenshots.
- Travel by car to support installs within the assigned regional market.
- Remote access/support tools - RDP, Dameware, VNC Viewer, or similar
- Remote software deployment to hardware devices; remote support for peripheral/hardware replacement
- Active Directory basics - domain joins, user permissions
- Ability to run pre-written Power Shell/Python scripts and follow documented steps - this is a paint-by-numbers process, not a scripting role. Some light troubleshooting of an existing script may come up occasionally.
- Terminal, PC, and device imaging experience
- Command line troubleshooting and application troubleshooting background supporting end users and field techs
- POS hardware knowledge (e.g., NCR or similar) is a plus
- PIN pad / payment terminal experience - understanding how PIN pads communicate with store infrastructure and validating payment processing post-install
- Kiosk hardware/software experience
- People skills, above all - you'll be going into theatres and working directly with non-technical staff. The technical side largely follows a documented process; the differentiator is someone who can build rapport quickly, put people at ease, and communicate clearly and patiently on-site.
- Scheduling & coordination - comfortable owning the logistics of setting up on-site visits directly with theatre staff and managing your own calendar across a multi-site rollout.
- Thinks on their feet - installs won't always go according to plan. Able to stay calm, troubleshoot in real time, and know when to elevate rather than getting stuck - asking the right diagnostic questions when you do elevate.
- Reliable & dependable - project timelines depend on consistent attendance and follow-through
- Fast learner - able to get up to speed quickly and work independently with strong attention to detail
- Vendor coordination - comfortable managing hand-offs with a third-party install vendor and internal stakeholders
Minimum Requirements
- 2-4 years of experience in IT-related positions
- 1-2 years of experience in hardware and software support roles
- Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, or equivalent…
