Job Description And DutiesUnder general direction of the Consumer Services Division Chief, the Bureau Chief organizes and directs the activities of Bureau staff engaged in handling written complaints, including the mediation of complaints, the education of consumers regarding the issues involved in the complaint or inquiry, and the identification of violations and the enforcement of the California Insurance Code, the California Code of Regulations, Title 10, and related laws.
The Bureau Chief manages all operations of the Bureau which includes staffing, training, planning, scheduling, evaluating, organizing and directing staff to ensure that the bureau's work is conducted in an efficient and effective manner in order to protect and serve the consumers of the State of California.
This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete a Statement of Economic Interest (Form 700), which includes an Assuming Office filing within 30 days of appointment, annual filings, and a Leaving Office filing within 30 days of physical separation.
Non-compliance with the Conflict of Interest Code requirements may result in the voiding of appointment, financial penalties, or enforcement actions.
Effective July 1, 2025, CalHR implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025 and a related Pay Differential 386. PLP 2025 requires employees to receive a reduction in pay in exchange for monthly hours of PLP 2025 leave credits. The salary range on this posting does not reflect the reduction in pay. Working Conditions- Ability to work in a high-rise office building.
- Ability to move objects up to 40 lbs. during travel with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Eligible for telework in accordance with CDI’s telework policy. Teleworking employees may be required to report to their headquarters on designated telework days. Travel expenses are not reimbursed; other authorized transit subsidies may exist for those who qualify.
- Routine travel is required within and/or outside the state of California via private or public transportation (i.e., automobile, airplane). Travel may include overnight stay.
