Job Summary

The Paralegal provides essential support to attorneys across all phases of the civil litigation process. This role assists in case investigation, research, document preparation, discovery, and trial preparation, while also maintaining regular, trauma-informed communication with survivors.

The Paralegal manages litigation deadlines, organizes case materials, drafts summaries and legal documents, and coordinates with internal and external parties to ensure timely, high-quality work product. Success in this role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong writing skills, sound judgment, and the ability to balance competing priorities in a mission-driven environment.

*** This position requires full-time presence in our Los Angeles, CA office.

Essential Functions
  • Investigate facts of assigned cases and gather relevant information
  • Conduct damages interviews with clients
  • Perform research on institutional and individual defendants
  • Draft and summarize case documents, including medical, educational, employment, deposition, damages, and abuse histories
  • Assist in developing case timelines and preparing attorney-ready materials
Document Preparation & Litigation Support
  • Draft correspondence and legal documents, including discovery requests and responses, deposition notices, subpoenas, meet-and-confer letters, and client communications
  • Organize, maintain, and update paper and electronic filing systems
  • Gather, prepare, and assemble evidence and case materials for attorney review
  • Prepare case files for depositions, hearings, mediation, and trial
  • Assist attorneys during depositions or trial by handling exhibits, tracking testimony, and reviewing transcripts
Client & Witness Communication
  • Maintain trauma-informed communication with clients and witnesses, ensuring accurate and complete documentation of all interactions
  • Call clients, witnesses, counsel, and vendors to schedule interviews, meetings, and depositions
  • Respond to and document intake calls from potential clients and collaborate with attorneys to determine case acceptance
Workflow, Process & Project Management
  • Manage a large and active caseload while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Create, refine, and maintain processes that improve efficiency across groups of cases
  • Coordinate with attorneys, paralegals, and support team members to ensure alignment and timely completion of tasks
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and mission-centered work environment
Work Experience
  • Three or more years of experience as a Paralegal in a litigation-focused environment preferred
  • Experience supporting attorneys across multiple phases of litigation
  • Experience managing large caseloads and time-sensitive deadlines
  • Experience communicating with trauma-exposed individuals strongly preferred
Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to draft clear, accurate summaries and narratives
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to demonstrate empathy and maintain professionalism with survivors and witnesses
