Our customer, a media company, is seeking a Director
- Privacy & Data Security to join its Privacy & Data Security group. In this role, you will play a key role in providing legal guidance on initiatives impacting privacy, cybersecurity, and data use.
Location: Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid-3 days a week onsite is required)
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities- Provide legal advice and manage projects related to privacy and data protection compliance.
- Guide internal teams so they can meet business goals while managing privacy and security risks.
- Draft, review, and negotiate privacy and data‑related terms in various business and technology contracts.
- Maintain privacy notices, disclosures, and other required documentation.
- Lead privacy training, handle consumer privacy requests, and support policy and regulatory work.
- Work with cross‑functional teams to embed privacy‑by‑design into products and services.
- Assist Chief Privacy Officers and Information Security teams with incident response.
- Stay updated on privacy laws and assist with incident response alongside privacy and security teams.
- Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctor Degree from a top‑tier ABA‑accredited U.S. law school. Must have amazing credentials from top colleges and law schools.
- Must be a member of the California Bar.
- At least 5 years of experience in privacy and data security, either in a top law firm or in‑house.
- Able to give practical guidance on privacy regulations and risk management.
- Strong knowledge of privacy, cybersecurity, and tech issues, especially in consumer‑focused settings.
- Skilled at handling multiple projects, working independently, and collaborating with teams.
- Experience supporting commercial deals with privacy and data‑use advice.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex legal topics.
- Excellent contract drafting, negotiating, and issue‑spotting skills, including familiarity with privacy regulations such as CCPA.
- Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, business‑ready guidance.
- Experience in the media, entertainment, or technology sectors.
- Background working with product, platform, or data teams.
