Duration 8 Month contract (coverage for a leave)
Onsite Tuesday through Thursday in Los Angeles, CA 90013
Prior regulatory litigation and/or litigation experience is a must, as this person will be helping with the company’s biggest filings
- Day to day tasks include: heavy site checking and creating table of authorities
- Prior regulatory experience in a utility environment would be great
- This worker will be receiving a lot of information from senior managers so site checking is important
- Soft skills are equally important as this person will be working on a large team
- Technology skills- someone who is sharp and curious and can manage Microsoft PowerPoint and iManage
- Experience with Lexis Nexis and West Law and Blue Book is important
- Detail oriented, strong sense of urgency, comfortable working in a fast paced environment
- Assist lawyers in filing materials such as motions, memoranda, pleadings and briefs in various court systems
- Accompany lawyers to see clients and/or to go to court
- Interview clients either by phone or in person prior to referring them to their organization’s lawyers
- Have the authority to accept or reject potential clients
- Edit pleadings, technical papers, briefs and other documents
- Help review legal documents to make sure that relevant facts are included
- Travel to various courts to accompany their organization’s lawyers
- Train and coach new or more junior paralegals
- Gather and analyze research data, such as statutes, decisions and legal articles, codes and documents
- Prepare affidavits or other documents, maintain document file and file pleadings with court clerk
- Prepare legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, appeals, wills, contracts and real estate closing statements
- Investigate facts and law of cases to determine causes of action and to prepare cases
- Assist lawyers by researching legal precedent, investigating facts or preparing legal documents
