Job Description & How to Apply Below
We are seeking a sharp, detail-oriented Ocean Import Coordinator to join our freight forwarding team. In this role, you will manage ocean freight shipments from foreign origins to their final destination. Because we partner with an external customs broker, a critical part of your job will be auditing arrival documentation and ensuring flawless hand-offs to our brokerage partner to minimize port delays.
If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and love keeping global supply chains moving smoothly, we want to hear from you.
- A-to-Z Shipment Management:
Monitor Ocean import shipments from origin to destination, ensuring all milestones are met and tracking data is accurate. - Brokerage Liaison:
Prepare, organize, and turn over complete document packets (Bills of Lading, Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists) to our customs brokerage partner in a timely manner. - Partner Coordination:
Act as the main point of contact between overseas agents, ocean carriers, drayage truckers, and our customs broker to ensure seamless cargo clearance and delivery. - Exception Handling:
Proactively troubleshoot shipment delays, port congestion, customs hold, or container exams, keeping clients updated with solutions. - Financial Management:
Profitably manage financial tasks, including auditing carrier invoices, approving freight charges, managing accessorial risk (demurrage/detention), and issuing timely billing to clients.
- Experience:
2 to 4 years of hands‑on experience in ocean import operations within a freight forwarding or NVOCC environment. - Documentation Expertise:
Deep understanding of international shipping documents and a keen eye for spotting missing or inaccurate data before it hits the broker. - Logistics Tech‑Savvy:
Strong proficiency with logistics management software (experience with Cargo Wise is a major plus) and standard office suites. - Industry Knowledge:
Solid grasp of Incoterms, ocean carrier structures, port operations, and standard transit milestones. - Communication & Hustle:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You know how to collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external partners.
- Competitive salary ($55,000 - $75,000) with performance incentives.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
- 401(k) with company match after 1 year.
- Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) and paid holidays.
- Opportunities for professional growth and continuing education in international trade
