Position: RAIL BODY/PAINT REPAIRER

Job Overview

Under moderate supervision, performs all types of body and paint repairs on light rail vehicles.

Base Pay Range

$45.86/hr - $57.25/hr (This range is provided by Los Angeles Metro. Actual pay will be based on skills and experience.)

Responsibilities
  • Repair body and paint damage to the interior and exterior of light rail vehicles
  • Remove vehicle parts such as headlights to perform repairs on the damaged areas
  • Use Metal Inert Gas (MIG) and Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding equipment to repair damage
  • Mix paints, match colors, and paint vehicle surfaces with high volume low pressure (HVLP) spray guns
  • Respond to emergency body repair and maintenance requirements of rail vehicles
  • Contribute to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out
Qualifications
  • 2 years’ experience in paint and body repair of cars, trucks, or rail vehicles and six months’ welding experience
  • Success in a full‑time training program from an accredited school in paint and body repair may be substituted for an equivalent amount of actual work experience
  • Valid California Class C driver’s license
Essential Skills & Knowledge
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and safety procedures used in the repair and painting of rail vehicle bodies
  • Vehicle operation and safety protocol understanding
  • Ability to perform repair and painting on a variety of rail vehicle body surfaces
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Communicate effectively with others and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Safely operate Metro vehicles and a variety of tools and equipment
  • Maintain simple written records
  • Lift and move objects weighing up to 60 pounds
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Tolerate exposure to noise, unpleasant odors, and outdoor work at night and in all types of weather
Special Conditions
  • Must comply with all California Occupational Safety & Health Act (Cal/OSHA) regulations and use approved safety equipment, including respirators and hearing protective devices (HPD) as required
  • Must be able to work on any one of three shifts and weekends
  • May be exposed to weather, chemical, electrical, and physical hazards when performing duties
  • Positions in this classification are considered safety sensitive under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations
